And what I got when I cancelled a credit card ("WELL, OBVIOUSLY I'M NOT OF HIGH-ENOUGH MENTALITY TO UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WANT TO CANCEL THIS CREDIT CARD, IS THAT IT????")
We should all go back to mailing these companies a money order for our monthly bills. Stop sending them money orders and they'll cancel the service in a split second.
I just canceled my service with Comcast two weeks ago because they jacked up the rate after my first year contract expired. Four days later a sales rep called me and said they would put the monthly rate back to where it was if I stayed with them.
You can always hang up the phone if you don't like what's being said.
My DSL/phone contract with AT&T ends on August 12.
Any suggestions on dealing with AT&T for renewing at a lower rate?
Tell them your on a very tight budget and what you can pay for the service. Tell them if the service costs more than you can budget for you will have to drop them. I always tell my provider I don't want to cut service, this way it doesn't sound like a threat, but I will if it is not financially feasible.
If you paid all your bills on time or been a long standing customer remind them of that too. Let them know how valuable you are to them.
Finally if they don't provide you a rate you can live with follow through and cancel. As someone else stated more than likely they will call you back and offer your a deal you can live with for another year or two.
Usually they will say they found a special offer that's currently running (that no one knows about) which meets your current monthly plan.
I didn't listen to the clip, but I can guess what it's like. About 18 months ago I cancelled Sky. My god!!! It took about 45 minutes, I can never go through that again. The sky guy on the other end threatened, begged, whined, it was just awful. I don't know why they do it, I'll never sign up with Sky again, never ever, because of that. I think it's really stupid of them.
