Considering the sadness of that day, it remains one of the most unified and comforting times I've had in eleven years on this forum. That thread had everyone, for at least a brief time, peaceably sharing their thoughts and what Goldsmith's music meant to them. I was in a crap job at the time and remember going to work in a daze, but being able to grieve (as much as a person can grieve for someone they'd never met) with like-minded people who knew and loved his music, this board was a wonderful place to be.
At last. I waited for someone to remember this date. I even hoped that somebody could announce a special edition to commemorate this important anniversary. A Varèse box-set edition, with massive expanded editions of the last works of Jerry, for example. None of this, however.
Only our thoughts. To the everlasting greatness of the Master's music.

Thanks for this post, Jim. I vividly remember this day - it was the first of only a few times when a celebrity's passing strongly affected me. You're absolutely right that this really unified the board. Goldsmith's my favorite composer not just of film music but of music in general and I find it very hard to believe that he'll ever be matched. Rest in peace, Maestro.
Weird coincidence...I was watching the Twilight Zone episode "The Old Man In The Cave" tonight, and there's a character named...Goldsmith. I swear to God I didn't know that when I popped it in.
