Just received Centennial Summer yesterday. It is a revelation! I have the old soundtrack CD released with the music, dialogue and effects track. This release sounds amazing. The background score and
song introductions add so much its enjoyment. And it fills the entire CD. What a value!
It certainly doesn't sound like an almost 70 year old film. Please straighten out the legal issues hindering the release of the blu-ray. The 3 strip Technicolor should look lovely. Of course, a music only track would be nice too.

I have listened to this CD several times and enjoy it very much. According to the notes, most of the vocals were dubbed. However, the title listing does not indicate who sings which selection. I am not that familiar with the film. Does anyone know which vocalist sings what?

Thank you

our redoubtable Manderley replied to a query -

"JEANNE CRAIN was dubbed by LOUANNE HOGAN
(.....who often dubbed for Crain, and also sang for Virginia Mayo in Goldwyn's THE PRINCESS AND THE PIRATE in this '40s period. Hogan was a regular at the studios.)

WILLIAM EYTHE was dubbed by DAVID STREET
(.....also a regular dubber who often worked at Fox. Much later, he can be seen and heard in the "Isn't It Kinda' Fun" song and dance number opposite Ann-Margret in the 1962 STATE FAIR.)

LINDA DARNELL was dubbed by KAY ST. GERMAINE
(......a dubber who worked often, and in 1947 dubbed Barbara Stanwyck in CALIFORNIA.)

CORNEL WILDE was dubbed by BEN GAGE
(.....who was at that time Mr. Esther Williams smile and did a lot of dubbing at Fox for leading stars like Victor Mature, George Montgomery, and Dana Andrews, among others. I'd never noticed it before, but I recently discovered Gage in a bit part on-screen moment, dressed in a white Panama suit and carrying a child as he came down the gangplank of an arriving ship--- supposedly in Tahiti [but actually Hawaii]---in the opening sequence of PAGAN LOVE SONG which, of course, starred his wife. MGM was obviously supporting conjugal relations visits on location for its stars!"

No details as to who sang what though.
Alistair

I received this CD a few days ago, and it is a delight! Gorgeous Newman underscore and so many melodic Kern tunes too.

sadly we will probably never see this lovely film released - in any format - now that Twilight Time is gone. I have a good copy from a print but many others are unable to see this film anywhere...

And I'm here to tell you, the transfer was glorious. Truly glorious.

so Bruce, can you say why it was not issued?

Can another company, such as Kino Lorber, issue CENTENNIEL SUMMER?
