I recall seeing the VHS movie many many years ago and the scene that stuck out in my memory was of John Huston over the side of a build hanging on for dear life to a huge american flag.
William Richert of JIMMY REARDON / AREN'T YOU EVEN GONNA KISS ME GOODBYE, directed.
Saw a few clips on line and the Jarre music I heard reminds me of his LAST TYCOON score.
Very good, oddball film. The love music was re-appropriated for TYCOON, correct Zooba There is some of MJ's militant percussion for the patriotic aspects, and my favorite bit being the playful-lullaby like tune for the 'spirit of the universe' (sic?).
A short score but one I really hope sees the light of day someday - happily, I like the film enough I don't mind watching it often to hear the score. Who knows where the rights lie for this thing, I'm sure if Intrada could find a proper 'B-side' they would do it.
Almost forgot the best featured use of music is when Bridges makes a brief-Lawrence like trek into the desert just to shout 'You stink Pa!!!!' after being rebuffed by his father, wonderfully played by John Huston.
Lots of fun, some uncredited cameos here, and the commentary is well worth a listen for the whirlwind nightmare making this film was.

I saw the film myself years ago on HBO.
Very odd film, with a very interesting score by Jarre, the title sequence was quite interesting:
I'm sure Anchor Bay's fine DVD is OOP, then I remembered the director has a very interesting site, and a directors cut I really need to pick up someday:
slightly wacky but typical early 70s film all i remember of the score was that it was sparse and with a lot of other effects noises over it in the film.
Watched this via Amazon prime last night, tagged as a director's cut, to see what differences there were. Fans of this wacky, endlessly watchable film should take a look - there is an alternate ending tagged on....from a workprint & nothing ground shaking, but a good excuse to rewatch. I still hope Jarre's brief but terrific score hits CD, vinyl, digital before I'm pushing up daisies....
