I envy you. There is only one Woody Allen movie that I actually like and that is Hollywood Ending. The entire offering went down light and airy-like and I found myself appreciatively smiling throughout. The three glasses of red wine I drank made the entire time all the more enjoyable but did not in any way deceive me into thinking I was watching a great film; I stand by my original review. However, the film's pacing is better suited to a home viewing setting and I found myself wanting to immediately watch the movie again. I had that "blue" feeling after the movie ended and did not want it to end. Credited with introducing existentialism to the English speaking world, it ties into both the reported serious tone, and the theme of philosophy in the film." But wait! The Woodman Speaketh: "Sony Classics and I have a good working relationship. Between this and Birdman, I'm convinced that Emma Stone's saucer eyes are capable of hypnotizing me into doing who knows what. 2. Splendid photography and design. Woody could easily make an excellent classic Great Gatsby film - too bad we just had a recent remake! 3. The Manhattan reference was quite a delight - that film being the pinnacle of Allen's early movies, imo. 4. Cafe Society looks fabulous based on the trailer. I feel that Woody has been producing consistently excellent work since VCB (not counting Whatever Works). It did take me some time to warm to To Rome with Love but even that is one I will admit to enjoying quite a bit.
