It was anthem-like, an instrumental played on electric keyboard or electric organ, and probably comes from the mid 1960s. What's it called? Do you mean in the religious or in the celebratory way? I must admit that the first thing that sprang to mind on reading your question was Booker T's "Green Onions!" (instrumental, '60s, Hammond organ). Observation - that Mason Williams piece is awfully like Ron Grainer in the middle section. Sort of like THE PRISONER or THE OMEGA MAN. Funny how I kiss and cuddle and treasure my copies of those Grainer film n' TV scores and yet can't be bothered adding any Mason Williams to my collection. I had an instrumental in my head for a long time, which I heard on the radio constantly, and the annoying DJ would never say the name of the song, or the artist. I wanted to reach through the radio and strangle the guy. Anyway, I finally found out what it was called --- "Pick Up the Pieces" by the Average White Band, if I recall. They actually say that in the background on the recording, but I could never make it out. (ADDED: I think someone told me it might have been in the film "Superman II", when the Super Villains are in the small town bar. But I haven't seen the film in years, and I dont' recall the music from that scene specifically.) Songs that don't say the title are a pain as well. It took me years to find out what The Smiths' song "How Soon Is Now" was called. All I could say to my friends was that it was "that ominous sounding track which sounds like a bus is going by every once in a while". (A lot of good that did.)
