I never knew the name of it. It was anthem-like, an instrumental played on electric keyboard or electric organ, and probably comes from the mid 1960s.

What's it called?

Maybe I could find it on youtube.

Hmm, not much to go on there, Richard. Could you be more specific with "anthem-like"? Do you mean in the religious or in the celebratory way? I must admit that the first thing that sprang to mind on reading your question was Booker T's "Green Onions!" (instrumental, '60s, Hammond organ). But... anthem-like?

The first thought to occur to me was Mason Williams' "Classical Gas".

Perhaps:

Love is Blue: Paul Mauriat
Last Date: Floyd Cramer (piano though)
Quentin's Theme: from "Dark Shadows"
Telstar: The Tornados

?

'Telstar'?

'Telstar'?

That's two votes for "Telstar!" I'm now going for J McM's suggestion of "Love is Blue" though. C'mon Richard, go to YouTube and tell us wot it is!

Observation - that Mason Williams piece is awfully like Ron Grainer in the middle section. Sort of like THE PRISONER or THE OMEGA MAN. Funny how I kiss and cuddle and treasure my copies of those Grainer film n' TV scores and yet can't be bothered adding any Mason Williams to my collection. Fanboy flanboy.

The arrangement reminded me a little of Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone."

Sorry, I didn't see the other post.

I've just noticed though that the 'Telstar' tune is VERY similar to the later theme from 'The High Chaparral'.

Well I never!

The arrangement of what, Richard?

Richard, the free wheeling instrumental section of Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" does sound a bit like "Telstar" -- so give a listen to "Telstar" and let us know if that's what you are trying to identify. This a link to "Telstar" on youtube:

Sink The Bismark was fairly anthem like

there were quite a few 'novelty songs' in the early 60's ... and there are lists

Instrumentals can be especially difficult to track down. I had an instrumental in my head for a long time, which I heard on the radio constantly, and the annoying DJ would never say the name of the song, or the artist. I wanted to reach through the radio and strangle the guy. Anyway, I finally found out what it was called --- "Pick Up the Pieces" by the Average White Band, if I recall. They actually say that in the background on the recording, but I could never make it out.

(ADDED: I think someone told me it might have been in the film "Superman II", when the Super Villains are in the small town bar. But I haven't seen the film in years, and I dont' recall the music from that scene specifically.)

Songs that don't say the title are a pain as well. It took me years to find out what The Smiths' song "How Soon Is Now" was called. All I could say to my friends was that it was "that ominous sounding track which sounds like a bus is going by every once in a while". (A lot of good that did.)

Anyway, good luck in your search....

It's from '61--though I believe the song is from earlier-- but has the harpsichord beloved throughout the FSM board.
