.....since it appears that one of my favourite shows of all time - The X Files - may be heading for a reboot...

Den of Geek are carrying details of an interview with Chris Carter and Vulture, where the following is mentioned:

"After batting away talk of the lawsuits both he and David Duchovny brought against Fox, The X-Files creator spoke of how he and Fox TV CEO Dana Walden go way back, confirming "she and I have talked a lot about this".

"Is that a way of saying a reboot is happening?" asked Vulture, "That's just a way of saying there certainly have been conversations", Carter replied. "So why hasn't it happened?" Vulture pressed him. "I would assume nothing" were Carter's final words on the matter.

Mulder and Scully fans are really waiting for news of the long-mooted third X-Files movie, which has reportedly been sketched out for some time. If Gillian Anderson is right, that won't happen until at least 2016, if at all. When we chatted to Frank Spotnitz eighteen months ago, he indicated that a TV reboot was likely, and confirmed that there wasn't yet a script in place for the planned third movie."

I enjoyed the most recent movie, and whilst I would love the continuing exploits of Mulder and Scully to play out on the big screen, I'm more than happy for a small screen reboot (it was kind-of rebooted once already....sort of....).

Any thoughts?

Nah, not interested in a reboot. The stars made the show. Besides the series tread every possible alien encounter angle. It's just not necessary. But if others want to see a reboot fine. I won't tune it though.

No Mulder & Scully = No Sale. If they could bring back 24 as a limited series with Kiefer Sutherland, they can bring back The X-Files with Duchovny and Anderson. Maybe use that miniseries as a setup for a new series with Mulder & Scully as occasional guest stars.

The final series episode had an alien invasion date which has come and gone...maybe a movie could answer this mystery and tie-up the alien arc.

As big of an X-files fan I am, I can't see anything else but a reboot happen at this time. The last movie tanked, Duchovny and Anderson are getting older and I personally tend to believe the best of X-files is behind us, not still to come.

The only way they could possibly make another movie with both actors is this time have it be about alien abduction, the one thing that made the show so iconic, so they can market it accordingly and don't have to pretend like they did with the last movie (which was excellent as a standalone story, but obviously missed the boat with the general public).

This. 'Sides, Helix is a very cool show that demonstrates you can deliver a new concept without resorting to a retread with different actors.

Bingo.

They didn't even bring them back for that crappy second movie, which was really odd, as they had Amanda Peet and Xibit(?) playing FBI agents who essentially WERE Doggett and Reyes, in everything but name only.

So there may be some movement? The cancellation of The After (which was a decent pilot) appears to have prompted more solid talk about some sort of X-Files return....possibly including Muller and Scully. ...Ok, I'm happy with that...

All I can muster is an "Eh".

I got a "Hell yeah!" if they anounce Mark Snow as composer.

See my previous post. wink

I am excited we'll be getting an actual X-files show with Anderson and Duchovny. I can't see anyone else but Mark Snow scoring this, I'd be surprised if he isn't onboard from day one. The six episode miniseries brings it home to television which intrigues me and I'm curious as to what they'll do; go back to the roots of the show with alien mythology and government coverup, or perhaps tackle a more current issue with government spying, NSA, Snowden etc.

I will say it is weird that shows like X-files and Twin Peaks will be returning. I wonder what else will get a continuation?

Maybe we'll see "Charlie's Angels" resurrected.
