Into Darkness is the best Star Trek movie ever in my opinion and im so glad that that i held off on buying the original album ( 40 mins? Seriously? ) cos the deluxe edition is superb.Great themes, exciting action material and yes the Klingon music is a particular highlight.

Now can they please reissue the deluxe of Star Trek '09 in a proper 2 cd jewel case? Its the only Trek movie score i do not own.

It seems unlikely, but I guess one can dream. I got into the game after the Trek '09 Deluxe Edition had sold out, but I bit the bullet and paid a premium to get a leftover copy from Screen Archives. Only 'cuz it was Trek.

I, too, found myself unsatisfied with the oddball packaging choice, though. Not only does it not match any other CD on my shelf, you need to be damn careful with it as it's not a simply matter of swapping the liner and booklet into another jewel case if disaster strikes. I don't even touch it anymore; once I ripped it onto my computer, I wrapped it in bubble paper and put it on my shelf.

I mentioned earlier in this thread I'd like to see Varese offer to print a new official booklet and liner to fit in a standard jewel case and sell them for $5, but I think that's probably even less likely than a re-release of the album. So a couple weekends go I went into Photoshop and did them myself, and they're currently the 5th-last post in the Custom Cover Art thread.

Don't! In time the bubble wrap may start sticking to the cover.

Quick question regarding this edition vs. the original album... what cue or cues does the track "Brigadoom" from the original album correspond to on this deluxe edition?

Aha, I should have noticed the track times being close enough between the two, thanks much!

Is anything from the standard edition missing from the Deluxe Edition?

On the Standard Version, "Logos / Pranking the Natives" and "Spock Drops, Kirk Jumps" play as two separate pieces.

For some reason on the Deluxe Edition, they overlapped those two tracks, dropping the opening drum hit of "Spock Drops, Kirk Jumps". I have no clue why they would do this (the two cues are not overlapped in the film).

So you could keep the OST versions of those 2 tracks if you like them being separated instead of joined.

TL;DR: The opening drum hit of "Spock Drops, Kirk Jumps" in the ONLY thing on the OST not on the DE.

Well, I guess. All the music in the OST track "Kronos Wartet" is in the DE tracks "Klingon Chase / Meeting" and "Harrison Attack", of course. I suppose someone could "Kronos Wartet" if they wanted to for some reason.

And "Brigadoom" = "Harrison's Heart / Enter the Vengeance". Though, there is about a second of music snipped out for the original OST version around 2:08, though I dunno why you'd want to keep that edit.

Man I love Giachinnos Klignon stuff. So pumped to have Harrisons Attack now.

After watching the film on bluray last night I've given in and ordered the deluxe edition directly from Varese. Really enjoy this film and the score shone through on a cold winter's night.
