I’m wondering if anyone here has viewed the mini-series TOP OF THE LAKE? I had heard it was a great 6 part series that won several Emmys, so I found it at my library.

If you have not seen it, I do NOT recommend it. I slogged through six hours of man-hating drek so I could find out the “who-done-it” answer. At the end, I was presented with a two minute denouement that left various strands of the narrative unresolved. AARRRGGHH!

I would just like to have some various insights into the ending of this series since I suffered for so long to reach the end.

Jane Campion wrote and directed this mystery set in New Zealand, and she must be a misandrist and a woman who embraces misandry. Almost every man in the series was evil, corrupt, and criminal. Many were rapists and pedophiles. The very few honest men in this show were often portrayed as weaklings. I don’t mind books or shows that vehemently rally against violence perpetrated towards women, but this show forgot to recognize the gazillions of honest, kind boys and men, and it was just too over the top for me.

Moreover, the narrative was full of plot holes and was often illogical. Too many people often acted like idiots.

Holly Hunter was simple cypher who spouted empty phrases. Campion forgot to give Hunter some substance in her dialogue and some purpose for her existence.

For me the best part of the series was the choreography and New Zealand setting, and I had to know how the mystery was resolved.

Good news, since everyone seems to have hated it: It's returning with a sequel miniseries, Top of the Lake: China Girl!

The trailer looks pretty good, even though I disliked the first Top Of The Lake mini-series. I can't remember if the BBC did the first one, but I noticed that the BBC is doing this one. I will give it a try because the BBC usually does a good job. Here is hoping!
