I love both seasons of the series and the music. I'm thrilled season two has gotten such a grand release. "Time of the Hawk" is not only my favorite episode of the run it's my favorite score as well. Beautiful work by Broughton (as all of his work for this series) and I prefer it to "The Satyr.". Also of note is "Journey to Oasis" by John Cacavas. Such a wonderful piece of work for a middling episode. It's spooky, adventuresome and very touching. "The Guardians" by Broughton is also fantastic as is Stu Phillips' "Hand of the Goral." Really solid dramatic scoring on his part. This is my first real listen to Herbert Woods' work and it also really fine. There's nothing on this set I don't like.

I love the jazzy/pop feel of season one and that album is to die for. So is this. The more serious epic feel of some episodes makes for a wonderful listening experience.

I am beyond happy about this release.

(bump) I'm working my way through this set (n.p.: Disc 3) and am thoroughly enjoying it so far. I seldom watched the show when it was on, and ordered this mainly because I am a huge Bruce Broughton fan and couldn't pass up a chance to check out a nice chunk of his tv work. Really loving what I've heard of the Broughton stuff, and I totally concur with Scott's praise for John Cacavas' "Journey to Oasis." Looking forward to hearing the rest of this music, including the Stu Phillips material.

Interesting to note that eminent percussionists Shelley Manne and Joe Porcaro are among the many fine musicians who contributed their talents to these recordings. I love the small orchestra aspect of tv music, because the individual instrumental performances stand out so clearly.

It's hard to believe that this thread dropped off in such a short time... BR2 gets two great big thumbs up from me!

I'm really impressed with this release which contains a great many highlights!
I love the theme in Broughton's 'The Guardians'. It's like 'The Boy Who Could Fly' meets 'Tonight' from West Side Story. Very nice indeed!

Agreed on the quality of the scores in this collection. The Cacavas score for "Journey to Oasis" has some wonderful thematic material, from its opening and closing theme, the wistful romantic theme developed in several lengthy passages and then the traveling/trek which sounds as if it's from a biblical epic. Plus, there's the great music for the shuttle crash and the timpani-heavy swordfight cue.

The Broughton scores continue to impress the more I listen to them. I especially enjoy his scores for "The Guardians" and "The Golden Man".

I recently purchased this disk set and enjoy it a lot. However I was curious if anyone could help me to get the track listing to show up in Windows Media Player 12. Since the CD data isn't available on WMPs online database for this disk yet, all that shows up is that the tracks & disks are "unknown". I-Tunes players has the titles, but it is probably pulling the CD text off of the disk, maybe? For season 1's disk I had to manually type out the titles which was a little tedious. 4 CDs is a little too much.

Thanks for any assistance and happy listening.

I tell you what...whoever submitted this thing to CDDB for iTunes should be smacked. Every single CD is different in it's formatting. I had to fix just about everything when I imported it.

Pretty sure these discs is encoded with CD Text so you don't need to bother with CDDB! smile

Also, my thanks to all specialty labels that are using CD Text! smile

I use a free utility program called Exact Audio Copy. You can get it here:
http://exactaudiocopy.de/

I play all my MP3's on my computer with Windows Media Player as well but I encode the MP3 files from the actual CDs with Exact Audio Copy and LAME. Under the database tab is "Get CD Information from..." then select CD Text. Automatically fills the details in and if it doesn't have CD Text then you can use one of the CD databases. I also add album artwork to the MP3 file that shows in WMP with EAC.

It's a shame "The Mark of the Surian" was left off, the only episode missing. Since it wasn't mentioned in the liner notes, I'm assuming it's because of space or tape availability. I would also love to know if there's a story behind the "Journey to Oasis" end credits music since it's not on the DVD set. Again, probably just an "unused" cue, but there ya go.

I am enjoying the hell out of this set. The closing moments of the "Spires of Oasis" cue has always been one of my favorites (the last minute is just so amazing). It is so packed full of emotion, it's a perfect example of music elevating the filmed material. It's really very touching and sad. These isn't a bad score in the bunch. Another "Holy Grail" checked off...

"Since it wasn't mentioned in the liner notes, I'm assuming it's because of space or tape availability"
-------------------------------------------
It must be tape availability.
Over the 4 discs, there is about 50 minutes of spare room all told, so if they had it, I'm sure they would have used it.
Reading the above comments about this set, to say I cannot wait to get my mitts on it is one helluva understatement.

Perhaps. However, the finale to the Buck vs Hawk fight scene is missing from "Time of the Hawk" as well (where an exhausted Buck and Hawk trade punch for punch before being rendered unconscious by the robed old man), so it could have been financial.

Still hugely enjoying the music in both these Buck Rogers sets. And have created a playlist using the pilot/motion picture CD along with the theme tune & bumpers from the season sets to make up my own close approximation of the music sequencing as I heard it in the UK ITV screening of the Awakening double-parter. Still hoping the missing elements for the pilot might turn up someday. That wistful 'man out of time' piece of music that plays whilst Buck is looking over (that wonderful matte painting of) New Chicago for the first time always gives me goose-bumps. I think I'll just have to rip that from the DVD for the time being. Stu Phillips' music just fit the pilot like a glove - I love it!
Was wondering if there'd been any word about a third volume of music yet?

Think there is much to release from first season line Dream of Jennifer. And I want the pilot.

Was curious how well these sets have been selling - hopefully enough for that second volume of music from Season One that was mentioned as a possibilty a while back?

Still enjoying the heck out of these releases!

Is there much heard in the pilot score that was not included in the movie soundtrack?

And wasn't that reported to be missing?
