I knew we were going in this direction for modern TV scoring since last year's The Blacklist. I won't be watching this show even if it turns out good because the "music" will make it difficult to watch. Thankfully even The Blacklist wasn't like this.
Not impressed with this at all after listening to the samples on Amazon. I'm hoping the actual series will leave a better impression than the music. I am not a fan of Debney in synth/sampling mode.
I just watched the first half of this mini-series and found the music to be extremely distracting because it was so shockingly modern sounding. I don't mind when certain shows add some modern propulsion techniques or even some modern flair. McCrearys Da Vinci's Demons or Loducas Spartacus work because they are in keeping with the slightly exaggerated tone taken with their subjects, but Houdini premièred on the History channel and it felt like I was watching one thing and listening to something completely different.
