Includes details on the revised book that now includes a chapter on Skyfall and this fascinating tidbit:

"...added a photo to the "Dr. No" chapter that may surprise, or even infuriate, those who continue to debate the vexing issue of who really wrote the "Bond Theme."

It's a wonderful book. I guess I'll have to buy another copy to see all the extra goodies smile

Is there a new chapter with an explanation as to why tapes of unheard bond music sit in warehouses gathering dust?

Damn, I bought this on Kindle... does anyone know how this works? Will the Kindle version be updated?

That's great he's expanded the book. I'd be very curious to hear the behind-the-scenes about Newman's work on Skyfall—and to see that intriguing Dr. No photo. But since I have the hardback, I think I'll wait for the version that includes Bond 24.

Maybe it's something like Barry was going to do- placing the two manuscripts side by side in Variety with the caption: "I did not write the James Bond theme." wink

I'm sure there has to be a kindle update of some kind. Whoever gets this first can enlighten us on the new info.

Eight months of James Bond music?

Would that be the inspiration, perspiration or exasperation end of the business? smile

I was hoping he would reveal where "The Golden Horn" was supposed to go in FRWL.

"The Golden Horn" was meant to be heard at the start of the scene where Bond and Tatiana board the ferry (at 59:56 on the old Special Edition DVD), and Bond interrogates Tatiana by way of his camera/tape recorder. The music ends when the scene dissolves into M’s London office and the tape is being replayed, just before Tatiana interrupts her technical Lektor information and exclaims “Oh James! Oh James!…” (1:02:23). Try playing the CD at a reduced volume along with the DVD. It fits perfectly.

I'd really love to see some original Barry sketches/manuscripts. But it seems they're under lock and key more than any other composer's.

So does anyone have the updated copy yet? I'm wondering what the added photo in the Dr. No section is.

Mine arrived from amazon uk on Monday but alas it was missing about 30 or 40 pages, one page in from the chapter on Quantum of Solace, so therefore everything on that score and Skyfall was missing! So it went back without a further glance.

Should get a replacement today or tomorrow.

Replacement copy arrived today.

As far as I can tell, the photo you refer to is a small photo of Monty Norman's original manuscript, in his hand, of the 'James Bond Theme'. In the original hardback, the photo was of the lead sheet for 'Bad Sign, Good Sign'.

Strange. That is in my first edition copy. I wonder what they meant by the following quote then:

"...added a photo to the "Dr. No" chapter that may surprise, or even infuriate, those who continue to debate the vexing issue of who really wrote the "Bond Theme."

And the photo is the one I just described, which isn't in the hardback. The photo you are thinking of (and which has been replaced by the new photo) is - as I said - the 'original lead sheet' for "Good Sign, Bad Sign", which isn't quite the same as being the original manuscript for the James Bond Theme (in the new paperback edition).

Have a look at your hardback again smile

Ah, gotcha! My brain must be slipping this morning. Thanks! smile

So in your opinion does this new photo bolster credibility for either side of the argument?

I've never seen Monty Norman's handwriting, but the caption assures us it's in his own hand and if Jon Burlingame says that, its good enough for me.

But I haven't a clue to be honest big grin
