Oh please, this drives me nuts (to paraphrase another thread title here):
I only remember that some people come to an abandonded toll station (?) or something like that (customs offices?) on some highway at night and realize this is something completely different. I don't know, some government experiment gone wrong / experimental doorway etc.?
Was it King or somebody else? Does anybody remember that story? It can only be from up to the 90s because I remember reading it an 80s or early 90s anthology (which hasn't survived moving boxes apparently).
