I hate listening to movie scores out of the order that they appear in the film.

Has anyone figured out the track order for Tyler Bates's "Guardians of the Galaxy"?

Only two are. "To the Stars" is the first track and "The Final Battle Begins" is right after "We All Got Dead People".

Thanks, Machionic. I haven't picked this up yet, but when I do I'll be rearranging it for film order.

Here's another question: Does anybody have the order of the score and the songs as they appear in the film? I normally wouldn't bother with songs not written for the film, but Guardians of the Galaxy is kind of a big exception.

I agree with the exact statement in your second paragraph so I arranged an iTunes playlist doing exactly as you've asked. Check out what I've got and hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do. Listening to it all together is like going back on the adventure of the film, Bates' score compliments the songs very well.

01.) "I'm Not in Love" by 10cc
02.) To the Stars
03.) Marvel Studios Fanfare† by Brian Tyler (ESSENTIAL FOR THIS ONE!)
04.) Morag
05.) "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone
06.) Plasma Ball
07.) Quill's Big Retreat
08.) "Go All the Way" by Raspberries
09.) Ronan's Theme
10.) Everyone's an Idiot
11.) What a Bunch of A-holes
12.) Busted
13.) The New Meat
14.) "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Suede
15.) The Destroyer
16.) Sanctuary
17.) The Kyln Escape
18.) Don't Mess with my Walkman
19.) "Escape (The Pina Colada Song" by Rupert Holmes
20.) The Great Companion
21.) "Moonage Daydream" by David Bowie
22.) The Road to Knowhere
23.) "Fooled Aroung and Fell in Love" by Elvin Bishop
24.) The Collector
25.) Ronan's Arrival
26.) The Pod Chase
27.) Sacrifice
28.) We All Got Dead People
29.) "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways
30.) The Final Battle Begins
31.) The Ballad of the Nova Corps. (Instrumental)
32.) Groot Spores
33.) Guardians United
34.) The Big Blast
35.) Groot Cocoon
36.) "O-O-H Child" by The Five Stairsteps
37.) Black Tears
38.) Citizens Unite
39.) A Nova Upgrade
40.) "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
41.) "I Want you Back" by Jackson 5
and...
42.) "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum (This one wasn't included in the film, I assume maybe it accompanied a deleted scene or sequence, but it was featured in one of the trailers and most likely was on Peter's mom's playlist she left for her son.)

†- From Thor: The Dark World soundtrack

Enjoy!

You are correct! I read an interview where there was a 'getting ready' montage, or something like that, which featured this song but ultimately had to be cut from the film. One of those shots can be seen in trailers, where Quill and Gamora are getting ready and he sees her back.

Of course it is an iconic song, but it has a really special meaning within this playlist being what the song's lyrical content is about. smile

That said, I'm glad they cut that "naked woman's back" scene. It would've played too much like a maligned extraneous scene from Star Trek Into Darkness and ultimately those are not needed. Quill and Gamora's flirtatious but ultimately familial relationship was a nice bit in the film, especially when Gamora gets to hold a knife to Peter's throat after he tries seducing her like the other numerous alien babes he's encountered.

Excellent, nuts_score! Exactly what I was looking for. I probably better get my hands on Tyler's Marvel fanfare, too. Maybe I'll pick up the whole Thor: The Dark World score once I get around to seeing the film and its predecessor.

Did the Marvel fanfare come after the opening of the movie? Funny I didn't remember that.

Yes - the movie opens with a tag of the planet and year, and then a shot of Peter Quill sitting in the hospital. The Marvel Studios banner plays after his abduction a few minutes later.

I never thought the fanfare was all that special in Thor or Captain America 2, so it's either growing on me or it just seemed special in this film (with its odd placement).

That's why I was surprised I didn't remember it being not up front. Because I remember being positively giddy when it showed up. Marvel movie! Yaaaay!

Sad hospital scene on Earth. Crying boy runs away. Blinding light. Picked up by spaceship. Whoosh, the adventure begins, and here comes the Marvel logo and theme!

I'd say it was some of the best use of music so far in any of their films. It really launched you into another world.

The decision to place the studio logo after the opening scene and right before the opening credits was quite something. It signaled young Peter Quill, and the audience, being whisked away on a fantastic Marvel adventure.

I felt the same way, but this movie "made it cool," I guess.

Did anybody else notice how it was a different version of the fanfare than we've heard before. The brass was playing in a higher key. Maybe they re-recorded it or did a bunch of versions to begin with.

What score is the score they used when Quill was running with the Plasma Ball and Gamora was trying to get it and Rocket Raccoon and Groot was trying to capture him just before all 4 of them get arrested by the Nova Corps?

That should be 'What a bunch of A-Holes' and 'Busted', then. The track titles do not seem to match up with what's happening in the scenes.

So sacrifice is when Quill saves Gamora by giving her his mask and black tears is when Quill, rocket raccoon, Gamora and drax hold hands while Quill is holding the stone/gem?

That is correct. Bates uses a similar variation on the main theme in both.
