Sebastian Shaw wasn't replaced until the DVDs in '04. In the original theatrical SE's from '97, Shaw was still there. Lucas just kept ruining the movies more and more everytime he tinkered with them.
And I am in the minority, as I really never liked Jedi's new ending. It felt like a gimmick to tie the original movies to the prequels by throwing in Naboo and Coruscant in there...two planets that we never saw in the originals. I do realize the SE releases in themselves were a gimmick to help promote new SFX and the upcoming release of TPM. Plus, the new ending just lacked a warmth and feel good emotion that the original ending had. Yes, the original ending was a tad corny. But it worked. It was neat to see the new ending when it came out in '97...but over time I feel like it was unnecessary. Much like the prequels, it felt like Lucas force-fed us so many scenes instead of leaving it up to our imaginations. We know the galaxy was probably celebrating. But we didn't have to see it.
Naboo was not in the 97 SE either.

...the "skinny" is that there was no clean end credits available from Jedi, only the album master with the "Ewok Celebration" overlap, so on the S/E release the first six bars of the "End Title" come from Empire.

Mike, I've done a number of Empire/Jedi end title comparisons from the Sony soundtrack albums, and I notice that the six bars of the "joint" end titles run through the trumpet cadence that begins the Rebel Fanfare.
The mastering individual--more likely a "team", I would say--managed to punch up the Empire end title bars repeated in Jedi to make it sound like a completely new fanfare/theme statement by the trombones and trumpets.
I suspect, though, that the trumpet arpeggio/cadence that immediately follows the trombone theme statement and begins the Rebel Fanfare might be a newly recorded "sweetener". Am I way off-base here, Mike?
Whatever the case, the Jedi end title beginning sounds fantastic. Kudos to you, Mike, and whoever you bequeathed the assembly to.

I didn't realize when I made this inquiry to Mike Matessino that I was inadvertantly sticking my toe in the tarpit of fanboy animosity.
Let me reiterate. I don't care about anyone's stance on the re-imagined "Victory Celebration" sequence. I started this thread about the "End Title" differences between the original Jedi soundtrack/movie and the current RCA Victor/Sony edit of the soundtrack.

Also, it's hard to know when a thread is intended solely for the poster or when it's open to public discussion, riffing off each other. (Not that anyone needs to hear ANOTHER negative comment about Lucas' prequel aesthetic...)
