Thread title should have been: SOUTH PACIFIC-complete??

I thought this was going to be an announcement.

Yes....I had my heart in my throat, too.

People like this do headers like this on purpose. It's noxious and obnoxious.

For a moment I thought all my birthdays had come at once.

If I ever win the lottery, I'll commision someone to either find the original if it exists, or re-construct the whole thing & re-record.

A guy who could do that (huge undertaking) is probably John Wilson in the UK who's done so much with the old MGM scores for Proms concerts. Tremendous work.

Oh well; we can dream.

Wilson did a beautiful job on "Some Enchanted Evening" on the Rodgers and Hammerstein recording (following the movie orchestrations beautifully) but, unlike the extensions of other musical numbers from other films, his orchestrations stopped when the singing stop. I wanted that glorious underscore -- and violin solo -- that's under Emile's talk with Nellie.

As I have mentioned in many other threads here, The score certainly DOES exist. I saw and heard some of it when it was at Chace productions in the early 90s, The score is marked prerecord, leading one tothink Chace ahd a roomful of prerecordings for the songs.

Its all marked prerecords, as Newman prerecorded the underscore, and it was played back on the set while the scenes were being filmed. Almost all dialogue is looped after the fact for 70mm films because
a. there is too much noise in the outdoor scenes to record live on set.
B. on indoor scenes, the 70mm cameras are just too loud.

Well there's nothing stopping you editing the title header.
