Another movie legend goes. Stars of the golden years of cinema are getting few & far between these days. She had an amazing life, she was engaged to Frank Sinatra after Bogart died, but when the news of it got out, he broke it off & never spoke to her again (strange man). And she absolutely hated the name Lauren (given to her by Howard Hawks) & never used it in private life, everyone called her Betty.
yes, quite unsettling the way the loss of people we have watched all our lives and who have been in movies seems like forever, when they go its yet one more link to another time gone. Felt this when eli wallach passed. Such feelings must have happened to my parents generation. People cant be around forever, of course, but it just seems incredibly sad and disturbing to find time slipping through your fingers and people passing who seemed immortal.
Bacall was a real senior stateswoman and a class act. i was reminded of her cameo in the Sopranos where she stole the episode. She was as cinemascope says, an undisputed legend of cinema.
