I'll be getting all three of these, of course, because they rank among my favorite Shore scores and favorite Cronenberg films. I will be keeping the originals too, naturally, because why not? I was already quite well satisfied with the programming sequence and sound, but in this case I don't mind double dipping in support of such great music.

These are volumes 4 through 6 of Shore's Collector's Editions. For the record, Volume 1 is just entitled "Howard Shore" and includes music from AFTER HOURS (1985) and HEAVEN (1987). Volume 2 is SOUL OF THE ULTIMATE NATION (2006), and Volume 3 is ED WOOD (1994).

Please let a Volume 7 be named "Guilty as Sin".

Much as I love Cronenberg, it doesn't seem like "Crash" and "Naked Lunch" are worth the upgrade. Both are excellent in their existing album configurations.

Will have to get "Dead Ringers" though.

Does vol. 1 contain the complete score to 'After Hours'?

Yes, although it's naturally cut together in a way to
maintain a listenable flow since the cues are all so short. I'm still doing cartwheels this got a release. ..I love that film, never thought the score had a chance of release.

Thanks! I'll pick it up. The recent Ed Wood release was really nice.

Received these yesterday and very pleased. With Crash & Naked Lunch the original album track order is preserved and the new material is placed at the end. Dead Ringers presents the music C&C and as such plays breathtakingly beautiful from start to finish. Dead Ringers is definitely the highlight of these volumes in terms of unreleased material and I think also the more accessible of these titles.

Thank you. I love both Crash & Naked Lunch, but I also don't pick up every single expansion. Given the extra material on these two albums, would you say that the original albums did a good job of presenting the music, or are there important or worthy passages that had been omitted? I will definitely get Dead Ringers, but I am on the fence with the other two. Thanks!

Listening to the extra music I'd say the existing albums are definitely good enough on their own. That said, in the case of Crash, the additional material fits in well and features a nice new addition "Hangar", the rest of cues feel mostly like a variation of the main theme. In the case of Naked Lunch, the bonus material mostly reprises album cues with alternate jazz interpretations, with the exception of "Dual Typewriters" and "Martinelli" which feel underscore light.

Francis, could you or someone say a bit more about the expansion of Dead Ringers? I have the long-gone Silva version, and I always appreciated its suite quality. I'm curious if you know that version how you would describe what the additional music adds?

Dead Ringers is the most significant expansion, then Crash, then Naked Lunch. If I had paid more attention to the track listings I might only have bought Dead Ringers.

Dead Ringers is wonderful. Labeling the tracks "Growing Awareness" and "Helpless" as complete is a bit confusing though. They just combine music from different scenes. Plays very well though. Nice to finally have the score as a standalone album.

I have the Silva release as well and Dead Ringers to me definitely benefits from its longer program as previous posters point out as well. Cues like "Trifurcate", "Infertility Operation" and "Welcome Home" are great additions. Also, some of the cues in the suite are presented longer here. Out of the three expansions, this one has been getting a lot of play.

P.S. In regards to Dead Ringers, I hope the movie gets the criterion treatment on blu-ray, the existing French blu-ray has a wobbly image most likely from an older HD master as the dvd had the same problem.
