Just listening to the Intrada release again. Oh boy, what a magnificent score. Full of details and emotions. Just incredible. And the original MCA soundtrack album which featured the wonderful rerecording is beautiful as well. I cherish both releases. Morton Stevens scores for part 3 and 4 are professional as well but the contribution of Goldsmith is so very much amazing. I don`t care if today`s film- and tv-music only consists of drones and sound design as long as we have that amazing music from the past.

THANK YOU JERRY GOLDSMITH! THANK YOU MORTON STEVENS!
MCA/Varese album is a delight, is it not? That! I'd pay $19.99 now for a well sounding re-release of the MCA re-recording. The way I discovered this magnificent score. The way I would love to hear it again and again.
I've got all releases of MASADA... the original vinyl, the CD release of Varese Sarabane, and the Intrada release of the actual film tracks. One of my favorites.

Resurrecting this to whine about the fact that I missed the Intrada release of this. I caught a pretty good suite of it on YouTube and had to listen to it again. Amazing score.
Everyone here knows that Goldsmith(Along with Herrmann) is my favorite composer, so I'm about to commit heresy... I actually think that Steven's portion of the score is better than Goldsmith's! Now, the original rerecording is another matter!
EDIT: Maybe I better change that... I think I PREFER the Stevens portion of the score over Goldsmith's portion.

Other than the Roman army's approach and surrounding of Masada, and the sequence where the slaves arrive, most of the big emotional scenes of the show were in the final part. Which Stevens did a very fine job with. But it's sad that Goldsmith didn't have time to do the entire thing, if only to make it a completed project for him.

It's always so lovely to have someone piss on Morton Steven's EMMY NOMINATED Outstanding work on Episodes 3 & 4.

Wow, it only took you 9 and 1/2 months to pi@# on this thread and try to turn it negative.

Not..." ------------------------ So that top quote is considered a pi$$ on?? WTF. Ford, quit being such a DICK!

EXACTLY Ford - Goldsmith set the themes and motifs in motion but it was my man Morton Stevens that took that material to a WHOLE new level with his BRILLIANT score for parts three and four.
Mort's music, IMHO, for the "Battering Ram" scene is worth the price of this CD set alone!
BTW, Ford, ANY Stevens releases in the near future from BSX? Thanks...:-)

I also prefer the Morton Stevens scores, not taking away from Goldsmith's brilliant opening score. I didn't read a putdown in the OP, merely a preference for the Goldsmith.
I prefer the Goldsmith, but I think Stevens also did excellent work. I think people are wise to hold off spending $100 for this though. If Inchon can get reissued as an MAF title this can too...and hopefully the MCA re recording can also be licensed for inclusion this time as it could really do with a new CD master (there were issues with the old one).
