While I'm thrilled Banos' EVIL DEAD made the list and now you have me curious about RONIN, I must say this is largely a very generic, cooky-cutter list. Surely there are vastly better works came out in other corners of the world this past year?
1. The Book Thief - John Williams (classic style soundtrack) 2. Pacific Rim - Ramin Djawadi (really hits all the rock points) 3. The Mortal Instruments City of Bones - Atli Orvarsson (guilty pleasure, some mesmerizing themes) 4. The Lone Ranger - Hans Zimmer (A surprisingly Classical take on the adventure score with some solid orchestrations) 5. 42 - Mark Isham (Great theme and some deliciously triumphant sports music)
Honorable Mentions: OZ The Great and Powerful (Danny Elfman) Turbo - Henry Jackman The Croods - Alan Silvestri Da Vinci's Demons - Bear McCreary La Marche - Stephen Warbeck Copperhead - Laurent Eyquem Los Manos de mi Madre - Pascal Gaigne
Carrie (Beltrami) The Croods (Silvestri) Evil Dead (Banos) Iron Man 3 (Tyler) Jack the Giant Slayer (Ottman) The Lone Ranger (Zimmer) Mama (Velazquez) Now You See Me (Tyler) Pacific Rim (Djawadi) Passion (Donaggio) Saving Mr. Banks (Newman) Thor: the Dark World (Tyler) Warm Bodies (Beltrami/Sanders)

@ bobbengan: Occasionally I get into something more obscure, but for the most part my film music tastes do run mainstream. I'm always down to discover music from lesser known films and lesser known composers, though. And yes, definitely look into Eshkeri's 47 Ronin. That score was a real surprise for me.
@ Jon: I love Hisaishi's Princess Mononoke and have been meaning to check out The Wind Rises.
Also, I'm glad to see the love for Pacific Rim on here. That was one rocking score.
