Today marks the tenth anniversary of Elmer Bernstein's passing. What is your favorite Bernstein score? For me it's his most famous, The Great Escape and The Magnificent Seven.
I'm in love with his rejected score from The Scarlet Letter. Such a beautiful score!
Is this urban legend true, please? "Supposedly, Bernstein sent a letter to actress-producer Demi Moore thanking her for rejecting the score for The Scarlet Letter so he could use it in a better movie. " from http://popdose.com/revival-house-seven-great-rejected-film-scores/

Please make it true! Elmer, quelle langue de vipère!
RIP Mr. Bernstein. Your gifts made and make the world a richer place.
It is hard to pick a favorite Bernstein score because he composed so many memorable scores. I play his westerns all the time with The Magnificent Seven and The Commancheros being my favorite westerns. For sheer drama and beauty, I play To Kill A Mockingbird. He will always be my favorite composer.
I'm not a completist with Elmer, nor do I like every score I've heard by him, but those that I do like and love are amongst my favourites by anyone and are true works of genius and class. Anyone who has To Kill A Mockingbird, Magnificent Seven and Great Escape in their -ography could rest on their laurels for life. The fact he composed countless more 'things of wonder' show what a consistent genius he was.
