Don Pardo, who was the announcer on "Jeopardy" and other game shows, but was also known as the announcer on "Saturday Night Live", has died. Condolences?
One of the great, recognizable voices on television. Until I read his bio, I didn't realize that he had not announced Saturday Night Live for one of its seasons (the seventh), and had technically retired 10 years ago. But NBC (with whom he had a lifetime contract) flew him into New York, from Arizona, every week, just to do the live announcing for SNL. Thank you, Don Pardo.
I was reading that up to his passing, NBC would fly him out once a week to do his announcing bit (as Bob just mentioned). I'm not saying that the constant flying did him specific harm, but who can think that it would possibly do him good? It seems like a lack of common sense on NBC's part.
