Mondo, an Austin, TX based company will be having their MondoCon, Sept. 20-21 [http://blog.mondotees.com/], with various panelists, screenings, etc. Two score releases will also be available at that time:
2001: A Lost Score

Mondo is releasing the lost score for 2001: A Space Odyssey on vinyl for the first time ever!
Stanley Kubrick’s seminal masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey is known for its classical musical cues as much as for its vivid imagery. What few people know is that those cues that are forever associated with the film were a last minute revision on the part of Kubrick. An original score exists, composed for the film by the late composer Alex North (A Streetcar Named Desire, Spartacus) that was abandoned during post-production. North did not know his score was discarded until he saw the film’s premiere screening.
Composer and writer Brian Satterwhite will host a panel on the subject, featuring a live presentation of several scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey with the lost score meticulously reintegrated back to the film to show what could have been.
Working with North’s estate, Mondo will release “Music for 2001: A Space Odyssey” in a deluxe package, complete with liner notes by Jon Burlingame. The vinyl will be available for sale at the Mondo booth.
Additionally, we will be releasing the The Iron Giant soundtrack on vinyl for the very first time with two incredible package designs from artists Jason Edmiston and Jay Shaw.

The worst thing about Mondo is the instant sellout of these limited editions and the flipping on Ebay on the same day, for many times what they sold for, or what they are worth. Oh, and hipster sideburns and thick-rimmed glasses like Gov Rick Perry has now.
Ado, you don't know what you're talking about when you diss a vinyl release of these two scores.
Mr. Kamen's work should be well known, but the Alex North rejected 2001 score is special for the Main Title alone. One of the finest fanfare-and-theme compositions ever done by a Hollywood composer.
Don't believe me? Check out Jerry Goldsmith's recording of the North 2001 score on Varese Sarabande and get back to me on the ebay-hipster-flipper guys I was forced to line up with to get both versions of the JURASSIC PARK vinyls.
No real John Williams fans in that crowd, but a number of over-indulged millenial--yes--hipsters.
By the way, if Rick Perry thinks he's got a real shot at becoming President of the United States just by pow-wowing with a few policy experts, he's got a shock coming. Those Travis County charges just might stick. Or at least expose the governor's patronage schemes.
I think the only source left for that 2001 rejected score might be a mono cassette tape held by his family estate. Wouldn't that be something? Mono vinyl from a cassette? I don't give a hoot. I'll buy it for the artwork alone!
But maybe they discovered a previously lost stereo source. If so, it'll be one of the greatest releases the film score nuts have ever gotten. Here's to you, Mondo! Hipsters be damned!
