I've just been told by a reliable source that John will definitely appear at The Bowl this Summer, and that the dates will be announced, per usual, in March. Additionally, Maestro Williams will make a rare appearance with The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2016.

My apologies, not only does it look like there is no Williams concert but the BIG PICTURE is cancelled, both after a tradition of umpteen years. Instead 3 nights of ET done to picture with Williams introducing it. Frankly, for me, one of the most disappointing announcements in many a year at the Bowl.

There is also a BACK TO THE FUTURE done to picture night.

One glimmer is that the August 30th sunday slot isn't booked.

"Obi-wan, you are our only hope!"

I still happen to think that David Newman is being groomed/courted to succeed John Williams for his annual FILM NIGHT concert at Tanglewood. Both of them will be there again on Saturday, August 22nd. I have my ticket. Here's the link:

In the past, both John and David then made it back to the West Coast for their respective Labor Day weekend concert venues. I wonder why this year looks like it will be an exception? Hmmm.

Last summer, David Newman came to the East Coast to conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra live-to-film for STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS, with local New Jersey native Michael Giacchino also there. That was also quite a successful and really fun night.

Both 25 year cocert traditions have been dropped ath the Bowl.

The Academy's nominee concert (one of the greatest I've ever been to) has been dropped.

The GSPO has the shortest season they ever had, 4 shows.

Time to move to the east coast.

The Williams concerts at the Bowl were always 100% sold out. He has always been a huge draw there. I can't imagine that the Bowl decided not to have him back.

Williams must have backed out for reasons I can only speculate about (but which I hope are his very busy scoring schedule).

Well, this ABSOLUTELY SUCKS, if it's true. Had been hoping to go and see the concert this summer, and also had a big L.A./San Francisco trip in the works (which would also have been my first visit to the States). I am concidering changing plans and go to the Tanglewood concert instead, however I know very little about those concerts. Anyone here who have been to both? And what do you prefer?

Option no. 2 is of course just to wait a year, and hope he will return to the Bowl. smile
