MONDAY, AUGUST 25

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII---spoiler alert (see below).

THE STAND---Matthew McConaughey is being sought by Warner Bros. to play the villain Randall Flagg in the movie based on the Stephen King novel.
Also, McConaughey is being sought for the movie GOLD based on the true story of the 1993 Bre-X gold scandal in which a gold mining company falsely claimed it had discovered gold in Borneo resulting in its penny stock soaring up to $286 per share.

JAMES BOND 24---the upcoming Bond movie will feature a "physically imposing henchmen". Reportedly, "Casting has begun for the main assassin, with the search specifically focused on someone extremely physically fit and over 6' 2". Whoever wins the role will have several altercations with Daniel Craig's 007 throughout the film and also a driving sequence. Former sports athletes will be under consideration along with anyone 'very unusual'. The character has the working name of 'Hinx' (which may change before shooting starts) and is said to be between 30 and 45 years old... The goal is to find the next Jaws or Oddjob - a henchman so different to anything that has gone before that they will become instantly iconic in the film series."

THE PYRAMID---poster released for the horror movie from the creators of THE HILLS HAVE EYES and PIRANHA 3D in which a team of US archaeologists explore an ancient pyramid buried under the desert. They become lost in its maze of catacombs and discover they are not alone.

BLACK WIDOW---director Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT) said about the possibility of directing Scarlett Johansson in a Black Widow standalone movie, "Yes, I'd love to do a big splashy movie with a great female lead, but it has to be someone I can believe in. I would love to do a Black Widow movie...That character is really interesting, she doesn't have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah."

SINISTER SIX---the Target-exclusive Blu-ray of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 reveals two of the Sinister Six that will be in a Sinister Six spin-off movie are Kraven and Mysterio.

MAGIC CAMP---Steve Martin will star in this Disney comedy movie in which a successful banker returns as a counselor to the beloved summer camp of his childhood.

ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 4---the sequel will be written by Randi Mayem Singer (MRS. DOUBTFIRE).

WHITE CITY---AMC geopolitical series pilot underway about journalists and diplomats in Afghanistan. Steven Gaghan (TRAFFIC) is the director.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII---the latest rumor about a key villain in the sequel is that is Emperor Palpatine is returning, "Two independent sources have recently written to us to confirm something we had heard back when production first began. Even though Star Wars: Episode VII (as well as the following two sequels) will feature its share of new villains, the person pulling the strings, the real puppet master, the big bad of the trilogy is none other than Emperor Palpatine.
My source told me that The Emperor '100%' will appear in Star Wars Episode VII and VIII. Don't look for confirmations from this from Ian McDiarmid, because he's not portraying the Emperor this time. Will this big bad resemble the craggy old man of Return of the Jedi? Now that is the question."

That's just ridiculous and one of the least believable rumours about the upcoming film that I've seen so far.

Oh! So 'emp' wasn't well and truly shafted in VI, then? Saved by a bit of sithery-do, was he?

He could, of course, 'materialise' in non-Jedi apparition mode for an admirer to commune via the nether regions of 'the force.'

Except she isn't interesting. (in the movies) Just another generic tough @ss kicking chick in leather.

For the love of that all that is dear fluffy and holy, please keep Shaquille "Kazaam"/"Steel" O'Neal away from this. Deny him auditions. Tell him the whole thing has been cancelled. Tell him there's an urgant call from Paul Michael Glaser in regards to a Kazaam 2: the Kazamquel. Lock the doors, turn out the lights and hush everybody and pretend the studio is closed.

Sooooo their briliant idea for a villain is re-surrecting the bad guy we cheered the death of in one of the most important scenes of the original trilogy, to take a dump so big and fat that even the Nostalgia Critic couldn't survive it, to what? Wow us? Let this please be the false rumor we hope it is.

Oh, in breaking news, turns out studios think re-surrecting dead people will = WIN, so the following people will be in sequels:

Simba's dad
Khan
Bambi's mother
That guy who got eaten on the toilet by a T-Rex
Joker
Steve Martin's career
Maleficent
JAWS
Rover
Spike (oh, wait...)
The guy in the truck from "Duel"
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Nemo's mother
The cast of Les Miserables.
Casper
The dead people from Shyamalan's ... never mind.

The "Emperor reborn" slant is just hogwash carried over from the old Dark Empire comics care of Dark Horse Comics.

If Lucas had that plot twist in mind for later movies, he'd never have allowed it to be used in the comics - just like he didn't allow anyone for two decades to write Star Wars stories that took place before Episode IV. He is nothing if not a control freak.

Toss this one into the garbage chute, flyboy.

Just another example of bloating a film for the sake of merchandising. Hollywood needs to go on a diet.

We never actually saw Palpatine die though. He fell, but so did Luke near the end of TESB...and survived.

He may have had time to get to a small shuttle and escape before the Death Star II was destroyed.

I seem to remember a forceful plum of blue energy thrusting out of the reactor (or what ever Darth dumped him in.) Indicating a large explosion. That say's dead to me.

Relax. There's no need to make a fuss over this. It's the untruest of untrue rumours I've ever seen. Palpatine is dead. Gone. Gone over to wherever bad guys go when they die in the STAR WARS universe.

This is just something that must have initiated from some fanboy craving desperate attention.

That little thing? Oh, that was just a force-fart on the way down to his escape pod.

M - O - O - N... that spells Matthew McConaughey.

The more I read about the ties between the upcoming Star Wars franchise and the existing one, the less excited I get... do your own thing, don't let this become a rehash of the original trilogy and most certainly don't tie it in with the atrocity that so called preceded those.

Yes, please do! As a franchise/continuity junkie, I want it ALL to tie together.

I do believe the poor guy said, "AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaahhhhhh" all the way down the length of the shaft, which tends to make me think he was having a bit of velocity trouble. I suppose it would depend on the specific acceleration due to gravity on the DS 2, which would have been somewhat less than DS 1 due to being comprised of less mass.

All I know is, I can't even imagine how long he was holding it in!

Yet more fan-boy wish fulfilment ripped from the plot of an old comic book.

I'm not believing anything about this film until I see it up on the screen. So much bullsh*t being posted by people with their own agendas it's unreal.

Indeed. But fans seem to enjoy taking this piece of rumour and run with it, for whatever reason.
