THURSDAY, AUGUST 28 THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY, PART 1---photo released of Natalie Dormer as Cressida. DOCTOR WHO---photo released of the August 30 episode "Into the Dalek" in which Doctor Who must save a lone rebel spaceship that is surrounded by the Dalek fleet. THE SOPRANOS---when creator David Chase was asked if Tony Soprano is dead, he replied, "No, he isn't." However, Chase's rep later clarified the comment by saying, "A journalist...misconstrued what David Chase said in their interview. To simply quote David as saying, 'Tony Soprano is not dead,' is inaccurate. There is a much larger context for that statement and as such, it is not true. As David Chase has said numerous times on the record, 'Whether Tony Soprano is alive or dead is not the point.' To continue to search for this answer is fruitless. The final scene of The Sopranos raises a spiritual question that has no right or wrong answer.” DEPARTURE---sci fi movie underway based on the Martin Caidin book GHOSTS OF THE AIR in which a top FAA investigator seeks to solve the mystery of why an airliner disappeared then reappeared in the exact location ten minutes later which is followed by bizarre occurrences in the skies over Miami. The script is by Billy Ray (THE HUNGER GAMES, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS). Dave Frankel (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) is the director. ACME---Steve Carell will star in this untitled live-action/CGI Looney Tunes movie about the Acme Corporation that developed the many devices used by Wile E. Coyote to unsuccessfully trap the Road Runner. THE NEWS SORORITY---in a new book that chronicles the careers of Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Christiana Amanpour, Couric supposedly accused Sawyer of engaging in sex, including oral sex, to further her career. After Sawyer got an interview with a 56-year-old woman who gave birth to twins, Couric supposedly said, “I wonder who she blew this time to get it.” A Couric friend denied the account. BIRDMAN---Michael Keaton, Ed Norton and Zach Galifianakis star in this movie about a washed up superhero actor who tries to resurrect his career in a Broadway play. BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE---writer Drew McWeeney said, "Last week was about the fifth time I've heard that there is a mandate at Warner Bros. regarding any of the DC superhero films in development, and it's very simple and direct and to the point. 'No Jokes'." Speculation is that Warner Bros. doesn't want to repeat its mistake of emphasizing humor in its disappointing GREEN LANTERN movie. THE WALKING DEAD---Seth Gilliam (THE WIRE) will play Father Gabriel. KING ARTHUR---Charlie Hunnam (SONS OF ANARCHY) is in negotiations to star in this Guy Ritchie King Arthur biomovie. Elizabeth Olsen (GODZILLA) is in talks to co-star. UNDERWORLD---reboot of the franchise which starred Kate Beckinsale is underway. Cory Goodman (PRIEST) will write the script. IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT---new tv series underway based on the novel which was the basis for the 1967 movie that starred Sydney Poitier and Rod Steiger and an NBC tv series that starred Howard Rollins. ARROW---Rita Fukushima (THE WOLVERINE) will play Tatsu Yamashiro, one of the Arrow's mentors. GENERATION Z---zombie movie underway set in a zombie safari where guests pay to hunt zombies after a global zombie apocalypse. A man and his girlfriend team up with an ex-zombie hunter to battle thousands of zombies after the safari's security system fails. Dougray Scott and Jessica de Gouw star. YOGA HOSERS---Stan Lee will appear in this comedy movie from Kevin Smith which stars Johnny Depp and the daughters of Smith and Depp in which two girls and a Montreal legendary figure battle an ancient evil. THE RAMONES---Martin Scorsese is reportedly developing a movie about the punk rock group. SAW---the original movie will be re-released in select theaters on Halloween, October 31.
