I took a chance and bought the album 1984 by ex-Genesis member Anthony Phillips (from 1981) on vinyl. Really good stuff! It's a pure synth album from the guitarist (how ironic), reminding me of Jarre, Oldfield, Emerson, Wakeman and so on.
Seems like he also scored a couple of films, including the mid 80s movies God's Chosen Car Park and Tropical Moon Over Dorking.

He's quite good.
The best album IMO is "Slow Dance"; two movements that are very relaxing and just plain gorgeous.

I used to be a big Anthony Phillips fan and in some way I still am. His debut album 'The Geese And The Ghost' is an all-time favorite of mine. It's mostly instrumental, very acoustic, lots of guitars, extremely romantic in a forgotten and timeless way. The music seems to long for a different world and time. There's a beautiful song sung by Phil Collins when his voice was still soft and gorgeous. The album is conceptual like Mike Oldflield's first albums, though less reminiscent of nature and more evocative of romantic medieval times. 'The Geese And The Ghost' is generally regarded as Phillips' best album. Highly recommended!
His first two Private Parts & Pieces albums are very good too. Like 'The Geese And The Ghost', they are very romantic and medieval but less conceptual and more like a bunch of separate tracks.
If you like solo acoustic guitar then his more recent double CD album 'Field Day' is a must.
