Hey all. Can any one recommend some good Nature soundtracks or relaxation music? Such as sounds of Rainfall, Birds , ocean waves etc? For relaxation purposes, and sleep aids. I looked at some but couldn't find any good ones.
I really need something to make me relax enough to fall asleep. Most of the things are poorly done, they are either synthesized sounds that are like 60 seconds but loop for about 30 mins, or some other fake sound effects that are too obvious, for example I really like the sound of gentle rain fall, but the last one I listened to sounded like White Noise mixed under the sound of a bathroom shower. And a lot of relaxation/meditation music draws too much attention to itself and is more boring than relaxing.
I'd really like to find some really good ones.

I have 3 different cd's of rainfall, but can't recommend them. In "Country Rain", there is this irritating crow that squawks incessantly. With "City Rain", there are a lot of night noises like traffic and sirens. And "Jungle Rain" will keep you up all night with the lions and hyenas yowling and laughing at your discomfort.

Brian Eno's Ambient music CD's and specially" Music for airports 1" are maybe what you could use.

Those were exactly my thoughts.
But as they didn't really contain any "nature" sounds specifically, I didn't think Proj would be interested.

Wait--I think "On Land" had some in the mix, didn't it?

Surely there are a few soundtrack candidates to send you to sleep??!

I know exactly what you mean projectionist.
Being such a spritual person (what tosh!!) I have a few of these CDs and there is indeed a very thin line between relaxing and irritating. I have one with dolphin n whale noises that has a timer bell on it- in the end i found mysekf being drawn back from my meditation by the ding of the bell and even expecting it!!
Not very relaxing.
some others i have - not immediately to hand - are rain forest with storms n thunder and theres an oriental one too.
Again there isnt any ive heard - even having "relaxing music" on when having cranial and massage in therapists surgeries - that truly are relaxing.

Had you thought about doing your own CDr compilation of selected soundtrack music for yourself?
Stuff that doesnt have too much of a theme to follow.
Some electronic music with tones might be potential, like the Heat score?

Also are there no samples to try on itunes?

Well I appreciated the recommendation. I did mean that I was looking for music that must combine everything. In fact I find that nature soundtracks with music underneath tend to draw too much attention to themselves. So I prefer one or the oher but not both.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but "Sonic Seasonings" by Wendy Carlos just about fits the bill.

I have no idea what its availability is like, but it's worth tracking down.
For my money, she pretty much wrote the book on the whole "nature-as-music" genre with just this single album.
I don't put it on as a sleep aid, though. I find that I end up "listening" to it too actively to consider it ambient or subliminal. But that doesn't mean others would.

If you already know about it, never mind. smile
