You will note that track 26 ("Irina's Theme") is actually not called "film version" on the Intrada CD. The one called "album version" is from the original album, and "Irina's Theme" seems to be just an alternate version. As far as I understand it, the two versions of "Irina's Theme" and the original album version of "Farewell at the Airport" are actually three alternate concert arrangements of the love theme. Or they may have been alternate versions for the love scene which is now covered by "Arkady and Irina (film version)". Complicated? I guess so ;-)

Extremely late to the party here, but I finally got to listen to the Intrada CD. Suffice to say the high praise given to the improvement in the sound mix is well deserved. Well done Intrada with this one.

Aww man. I just ordered the 1000 edition by mistake. Looks like I'll have to order this one too. How do they compare? The main drawback to the Intrada is that it really tones down the cheap keyboard sound at the start of "Irina's Chase." I loved that sound for some reason. The Kritzerland version has it. Otherwise the Intrada is the thing.

Finally giving this a really close, multi-listen go. When I received it, I played it once through to make sure it was problem-free but didn't really get a chance to give it an immersive listen. Not long before the title was announced, I had also been listening to my Kritzerland copy. It was a wonderful listen and I thought it was fun to have the tracks in both album and film presentation order. Although the original Varèse album had pretty decent sound, the remaster done at that time was wonderful. I think third time is definitely the charm, if only because better elements became available. If you're in any way hesitating on this score but are a fan of Horner in his COMMANDO/48 HOURS/GORKY period, this is one amazing album. And to date still available. Clearly interest remains! The wonderful thing about this one that because I've purchased it three times, others got to benefit two of those times! Thanks, Varèse and Bruce Kimmel. You both got me interested in this score more and more each time it was released. This score glistens with a deep clarity and warmth that was definitely heard in the previous two versions but strengthened here. Loving it, loving it, loving it.

One of my favorite Horner scores. I can't explain it. I love it. Love it.

For three years now I just ignored what everyone said about this release, being (I thought) well satisfied with my original Varese edition (and tiring of expansion re-purchases). And then the Intrada 30% off sale came along, and I bought a handful of releases I had had my eye on but apparently was waiting for a price reduction. This was the first on the list and oh my dear sweet aunt Bea, what I shame I waited so long! Right from the get-go, the mix of the Classical and score elements in the opening cue works much better - not only clearer and more detailed, but makes better musical sense. If you've had your eye on this - it's the perfect time to pick it up, with only a few days remaining in the sale.

Mea culpa, seriously. I thought the sale was through the 30th, didn't check! But you know what, this release is so good it's worth full price, wish I had paid for it years ago!
