I've been wanting to see this film since I heard Edgar Wright's enthusiasm for it on Trailers From Hell (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVjwlJOI7Kk). I got the Arrow blu-ray a couple of weeks ago and I'm about to start my third viewing. I love, love, LOVE this film. The Paul Williams songs are fantastic (been listening to "The Hell of It" pretty much constantly since the CD arrived) but I wouldn't mind an expanded version with the short ditty "Never Thought I'd Get to Meet The Devil" and George Tipton's score. The album feels kinda incomplete without the wedding music from the finale. What are the odds?

Absolutely agree with everything here. The time just feels right for this to come out on CD in America (for the first time?) with ALL the songs. "The Hell Of It" was written for a never-shot scene of Beef's funeral, something I didn't know until watching one of what looks like several interviews with Paul Williams on the new BD/DVD set. William Finley's own version of "Faust" (that he poorly lip-syncs to early in the film) is amazing as well.

Agree with all of the above. Instant buy for me.

Wait, what? Bonus tracks? What bonus tracks? Second.

'What was that?' 'What was what?' 'You telling me you didn't hear that? Sounded like something trying to get out of its premature grave...and I don't want to be here when it does.'

There does seem to be two versions of the album, one where "The Hell of It" fades out at around three minutes and another that continues for another forty five seconds. When I discovered that, it was after I had ordered it but before it arrived, so it was a tense few days waiting. That extended outro rocks.

I just got finished editing the isolated music/FX track from the blu-ray. Omitting some tracks that were just one extended note or buried under FX, and including a few Paul Williams bits such as "Never Thought I'd Get to Meet The Devil" and various character rehearsals, my edit comes in at 43 minutes. I'd say there's probably about 30 minutes of score in the whole thing, so both Wiliams' and Tipton's contributions should fit on one CD.

It's passable until something better comes along, there's still a lot of FX in it. I'd love to hear a full version on that final cue as Winslow crawls towards Phoenix at the end of the film. Just as it's getting the most operatic, it cuts quite harshly into The Hell of It.

Starting it off with the Serling prologue gave me a kick every thime. Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna have to re-rip that bit and include Serling's narration. "Phantom of the Paradise" continues to build a strong cult audience. It's recent release on Blu-ray, on both sides of the Atlantic, has introduced the film to many new fans. It's profile has definitely increased in the last year or two. Or maybe I'm just paying more attention now. I need to re-watch SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD at some point soon, since there's apparently a ton of PHANTOM references in it. Edgar Wright wrote a nice tribute to William Finley on his blog when he died. http://www.edgarwrighthere.com/2012/04/15/winslow-leach-forever/
