Does any FSMer have any information on this (apparently new) Japanese label who's offering albums of vintage Italian film music?

http://www.soundtrackcorner.de/la-terrificante-notte-del-demonio-p6502.htm

http://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/27999/LARCIDIAVOLO/

Their CD serial #s/product IDs start with "OTCD".

Is this a similar business arrangement between Italy & Japan as with the prior Verita Note (which had released quite a number of Italian soundtracks from GDM's Gianni Dell'Orso & EMI General Music & others between 2007 and 2010)?

I expect these albums are digitally re-mastered by Claudio Fuiano...

I haven't picked any of them up yet, but a quick check shows that Octave Records is part of Ultra Vybe, who was also behind a similar reissue series from Solid Records, which put out a lot of music from Japanese 70s films featuring the music of Hajime Kaburagi, Toshiaki Tsushima and others.

The Octave in Lounge series only started this past May, and they have currently released five albums.

Fumo di Londra (Piero Piccioni)
L’amica (Luis Bacalov)
L'arcidiavolo (Armando Trovajoli)
La Terrificante Notte del Demonio (Alessandro Alessandroni)
100,000 Dollari Per Ringo (Bruno Nicolai)

Thanks for the info, Squiddybop.

None of the FSM 'regulars' who collect Italian soundtracks have responded on this thread yet, so I guess awareness of "Octave in Lounge" hasn't sunk in thus far ...

slint's favorite Trovajoli soundtrack is one of these earliest 5 albums on Octave.
Still no word yet from folks such as wayoutwest, Stefan Schlegel, Josh Mitchell, or Dorian.

Not until any album is purchased and received, I suppose, will we learn if the digital remastering is done by Claudio Fuiano and/or if an Italian publishing co. or record producer has 'farmed' these titles out to Japan.

I am wondering why Digitmovies has been releasing only 2 titles over the past few months instead of their typical 3-at-a-time.
Perhaps there is a connection between the Digitmovies reduction and these new albums via Octave?

As you are probably aware, only "L'Amica" is expanded, hence it is also the only one that I have. No idea if the other releases have been remastered (although most of them have out of print so I'm sure they are interesting for some of you)

The liner notes are indeed very much like those from Verita Note. The tape of "L'Amica" is "courtesy of GDM Music srl" with "digital mastering by Claudio Fuiano".

I don't have any of these releases yet, but I'm planning to pick up La Terrificante Notte del Demonio (Alessandro Alessandroni) the next time I place an order at Ark Square.

Never knew that L'Amica was expanded I already own all the previous releases so far think I remember Claudio mentioning something on Facebook about doing the remastering on few of these releases.

Josh I would highly recommend picking up the Lucertola Media cd if you can find it which has La Terrificante Notte del Demonio and Nora Orlandi's superb score for A Doppia Faccia on the same CD.

I think it has more to do with the number of threads I have to skip to get to the stuff that I like.

I think that the Digitmovies output has more to do with Beat, Kronos Gold, and perhaps Quartet and Saimel. Maybe Octave has a link with the GDM output, and I hope GDM does not simply re-release these Octave releases in 2 years from now like they did for the Morricone ones. I hope GDM/Legend continues as well as they are the main label doing non-CAM editions. We'll see if Octave propose more expanded editions.

Yes, it's quite obvious just from these 5 releases that GDM has now found a new Japanese business partner with this Octave label to whom they can license their own EMI General Music titles again. Just as they did in former times with the Japanese Avanz and Verita Note labels.
All these 5 titles released now by Octave do come from the EMI General Music catalogue and are therefore all owned by GDM. So in the near future you can certainly expect similar reissues of titles which had already been available about 10 or 15 years ago on CDs by various labels (GDM, Saimel, Lucertola, Screen Trax etc.)
This would mean that nothing from the CAM catalogue will probably come from Octave as they only deal with GDM.

No, I don't see any connection there at all.

Hey wayoutwest, I'd been on the lookout for that one for quite a while but couldn't seem to locate a copy for a decent price. However, I just checked ebay again and snagged a good deal. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

Thanks, slint.

This is what I expected: new masters by Fuiano via GDM for Japanese distribution.

If not, then why hasn't Digitmovies been releasing 3 titles per announcement?

I only wondered if there was a connection since Octave in Lounge transpired simultaneously to Digitmovies' recent offerings of only 2 titles.

I think it is nothing really new that Digitmovies has for the moment a bit slowed down their number of CD releases. I remember that there was a similar phase about two years ago when they did also slow down and didn't release three titles per month anymore for a few months, but only two. There are a number of reasons why they would do this. First of all, Digitmovies does not only produce soundtracks, but also installs digital technologies in cinemas and other facilities. They are also concerned with many other things as you can see here:
https://www.digitmovies.com/digitcinema/en/chi-siamo/
So it could be that at the moment they are too busy with such other things.

Secondly, less good CD sales during the first half of the year could be a problem for a lot of smaller European soundtrack labels. And thirdly, the oversaturation of the market with too many Italian scores during the months before summer.

Anyway, Digitmovies has in fact nothing to do with GDM. And if GDM has a new partner with the Japanese Octave label, that's only their business which wouldn't concern Digitmovies. Digitmovies normally is not dependent in any way from GDM - particularly not if Octave just reissues some older titles owned by GDM for their Japanese market. So I see no connection there.
In my opinion it's rather the (too) many releases of Italian scores by the various European CD labels where we could maybe see a connection to the sudden slowdown.

Hope you enjoy the CD Josh it is one of those discs that I can't see myself ever parting with.
