To have heard this fine score, you would have either have had to seen the film or have been lucky to have come across the scarce John Debney promo CD. When there didn't seem to be an official soundtrack release planned, I wound up seeing the film and liking the score a lot. After that, I doggedly pursued the rumored promo until I was successful. I agree with Kevin, Joan, and Bob above. The film is a middle-of-the-road, easygoing, lightweight comedy-drama. The score is quite supportive and enjoyable and adds to the film. It's definitely worth finding the promo. And this quality score is definitely worth reissuing. But the film was so-so at the box office (Gross: $81,000,000) and may not have a big fan base for a score soundtrack release except to us Debney fans. I guess it depends on what's in the pipeline of soundtrack releases.

We were discussing film scores and he mentioned how pleased he was with Debney's work on this film in particular and that he found the common accusation that Debney lacked a voice to be bogus. IMO this is unfortunately the case. Debney is an incredibly professional cratftsman who always writes very professional and serviceable music. But so far I`ve never heard a single truly original score by him and I really don`t hear his own unique voice. SNOW DOGS is a typical Debney score. Very professional, always the right musical emotions at the right time but it lacks any originality. When you compare the music to SNOW DOGS with some of the music by David Newman for other films by director Brian Levant, I think you`ll hear a difference in originality. I`m talking of brilliant stuff like THE FLINTSTONES I and II or the amazing JINGLE ALL THE WAY. All 3 highly original and inventive. But I wouldn`t mind a release of SNOW DOGS though

Another fan here... How about a "double feature" of this score paired with Debney's equally melodic orchestral score for HOTEL FOR DOGS?
