Tina Guo posted on facebook:
Two years ago, an idea began in collaboration with Film, Television, Video Game, and Media composer friends to create an album of music to benefit a Charity that supports music education. I’m so grateful and happy that this album is finally nearing completion with the release date on October 1, 2014.

100% of the proceeds from this digital album release will go directly to The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation in support of their amazing work in our under-funded school music education programs. I’m so humbled that so many wonderful composers donated their precious time and talent for this album, each writing a piece involving myself on the Cello in some capacity, varying in style and sound.

As a child growing up in San Diego attending public schools, I vividly remember banging away happily in the Canyon View Elementary School Band on the Bass and Snare Drums. We were lucky enough to even have the opportunity to try out all the band and orchestra instruments on an introduction-to-music day. At Twin Peaks Middle School and at Poway High School, I played cello in the school orchestra, and continued at the Thornton School of music at USC where I majored in Cello Performance.

My father was my cello teacher at home, but having the opportunity to play and interact with the other student musicians at school was an extremely important part of my development as a person and as a cellist. I believe that studying music encourages the development of social, spatial, auditory, and other positive skills in addition to the actual musical skill. It’s a wonderful escape from solitary practice in a room and statistically students involved in music programs have better attendance records, fewer discipline problems, and even higher rates of graduation.

Today, I’m very blessed to be a part of the incredibly diverse music and entertainment community here in Los Angeles. When I am in my recording musician mode, I make an effort to bring the same passion and emotion to whatever project that I’m involved in as I would in my live performances. Whether the music is classical, electronic, new age, country, jazz, or heavy metal in style, I seek to be immersed completely and understand what the composer desires in bringing their musical vision into audible existence. I’ve played in many orchestras on film scores as well and have enjoyed that experience- although working one on one is incredibly exciting and gets my creative juices flowing.

I love creating music in a close environment with the composer, feeling and feeding the energy in a cycle, and working to discover the full expression of written notes. I live for everything music, art, and expression related! It gives me a visceral high unlike anything else. I think that being open to new experiences, new music, new instruments (I’m self-taught on the Chinese Erhu) and jumping heart and head-in to every musical situation has been rewarding in that I grow as not only a musician but as a person with each encounter. Every recording session that I do helps me improve as a musician and expands my knowledge and vocabulary as a Cellist and I’m so grateful for it!

Without the training from my father, my first cello teacher, and the support and added element of collaboration, fun, and teamwork through musical programs in the public schools that I attended growing up, my development would have been stagnated. For the children who don't have music teachers for parents like I did, having an opportunity to play an instrument may be near impossible.

All of the wonderful composers and I appreciate the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation so much for its dedication to giving the gift of music to children and underfunded school music programs across America. We wanted to offer our support through this album of music called “Tina Guo and Composers for Charity” and would appreciate your support for the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation as well in purchasing this album on October 1, 2014.
