I was perusing the board this morning and noticed that I had not seen any posts from Ron Hardcastle lately. I felt this was truly unusual knowing what an active member Ron was. I always enjoyed his prolific comments. He seemed to have a true fervor for film, film music and music in general. His references to the vast and various number of items in his collection always left me green and in awe. Ron's stories of his encounters with various famous folks were so interesting. To me, Ron led and interesting and full life. I am in no way a morbid person with too much time on my hands. With trepidation and dread, I located the following:
I fear you are correct, as the photo in the obituary looks very much like Ron's photo in his FSM profile. Ron's date of death is given as 17 July, and I found a posting of his from 14 July.
I am sad today at hearing of Ron's death. Though I never met him, we'd had some fun discussions about Blu ray dvd's and his extensive (truly amazing) collection of films he had. We'd joked back and forth about this. And it was fun to discuss 'what we'd put in our burgers' and we both agreed red onions are a must. Ron, you are missed by me and others here and afar. I know you seemed to have fun on the board and I know you preferred iced tea to beer; but allow me to lift a cold-one in your honor:TO RON!
I'm shocked by this. I became good friends with Ron during his too short time on the board. We shared a lot of emails back and forth, and we had long discussions about musicals in particular. He has a vast knowledge and was kind to send me some stuff. Our last communication was at the end of June, and everything seemed as usual. I'll miss him.
I recall in January of this year when I helped Ron obtain the Kritzerland release of the Molly Maguires for a reasonable price, he was so thankful and excited. These attributes seem to have permeated his outlook on life.
That's too bad. He was a spunky character and obviously very passionate about his love of movies and music. I'll miss ribbing him about his difficulty in recognizing who was responding to whom in a thread. RIP Ron.
I hadn't even noticed he hadn't posted recently because his avatar and comments were so upfront and regular on so many threads.
I wonder if this resulted from an illness he didn't mention. He only joined about a year or so ago, but he seemed part of the furniture. Always keen and informative, he seemed indestructible.
Celebrity deaths are sad but generally theoretical and it's much worse when it's one of your own - even if you haven't met them. We lost a guy at work a couple of weeks ago, and my best friend's wife lost both parents this year. And now Ron. I always enjoyed our exchanges, even if sometimes we approached things from different directions. RIP, old boy.
As with others: we managed to rub each other the wrong way on one issue ... but generally seemed to have similar likes et al. Ron had views on many topics and was happy to express his feelings.
Sad news: I just hope that where he's now at ... they have a sound system to match his beloved Klipsch speakers...
I don't think we ever conversed here on the board, but I clearly remember postings by him. As said above, it's always sad when one of your own passes. As I get older and my hobbies and interests seem to be linked with age to some degree, I think this will happen more often.

Sorry to hear about this. We've lost several of our members over the years, and it always feels much closer than any celebrity death, in many ways.
Well, we had a falling out over Boyzone. I really pissed him off.
