I haven't used the board much recently but I knew of Mr Hardcastle - he'd established a good presence in a short time - and he seemed a passionate and decent sort of chap. This is sad news indeed.

I wish there was an address we could send our condolences to his family.

... for anyone who would like to leave a message, the guestbook attached to Ron's obituary listed above is now back online for a year, and includes a link to contact his sister Karen.

Thanks, Monty. I submitted a link to them to this page.

Nice idea David. I hope members of Ron's family get to read this thread and see how much he's missed by all of us.

Dogbelle, thanks for posting these. I liked his review of 'Maurice' and Richard Robbins thoughts about it. In Ron's profile at the Amazon site, it mentions he was about to self-publish a memoir. I hope it finds it's way to a publisher.

I've been away for ten days and returned to the board to see this sad thread.

I was perusing the board this morning and noticed that I had not seen any posts from Ron Hardcastle lately. I felt this was truly unusual knowing what an active member Ron was. I always enjoyed his prolific comments. He seemed to have a true fervor for film, film music and music in general. His references to the vast and various number of items in his collection always left me green and in awe. Ron's stories of his encounters with various famous folks were so interesting. To me, Ron led and interesting and full life. I am in no way a morbid person with too much time on my hands. With trepidation and dread, I located the following:

If I am incorrect, I hope I can be forgiven, especially by Ron. If I am correct, I am very sad. frown

I can't believe it has been a year since Ron passed. The board has not been the same without him. I am sure he is looking down on us and just shaking his head. You are missed dear man.

Yup. Klipsch speakers and Oblivion.

Sorry to admit that yes, the board, it goes on of course, but it's not as it was. Ron is (maybe) having one of his specialty burgers with his tall glass of cold milk and, having all the time in the world, going through his countless music and blu rays with his usual discerning eyes and ears.

Not surprising to find "Oblivion" amongst those, I remember he was a fervent defender of the movie whereas I wasn't won over, but he was ever the gentleman in discussions and recommending movies he'd seen. It felt to me he barely got started here when he passed away sadly, I wish he had joined us a lot sooner.

I feel like the guy who arrived way too late to…what? a funeral? A celebration?
Ron & I had a number of wonderful conversations right HERE.
I am so sorry to learn of his passing.

I shall miss you, Ron...

I completely missed the news of Ron's passing a year ago and am sad to read now that he has gone. I'd noticed he hadn't been posting and feared the worst knowing that he was in his 70s.

A really nice, knowledgeable and enthusiastic man. I remember how thrilled he was when I told him that 'Joanna' scored by Rod McKeun had been released on Blu-ray by BFI in UK. At one time he thanked me for discussing Rod McKeun with him on the board. He is much missed on the FSM board.

May he Rest In Peace.

I still wonder how he died.

There is no mention of any kind of foul play, though, because he often tooled around L.A. on his bicycle, that could certainly have been the case. That, or some kind of motor vehicle accident.

Still, the lack of any information is odd.

Oh well.

R.I.P. Ron
