Can you remember any movie lines that reference background film music (not film songs, there's probably a ZILLION of those)?

I remember "Thank Boris for his music" from.... THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

(See if you can guess what it is from).

Can you think of others? If so, hide the title under a spoiler "bar" like I did, so we can have fun guessing.

Well, there's the famous scene in THE HOLIDAY where Jack Black mentions several film composers in a video store.

Of course, in television shows, there are quite often references (FAMILY GUY, ALLY MCBEAL etc.)

But maybe I didn't understand your topic correctly.

If I'm not mistaken he calls Morricone his god.

High Anxiety - Mel Brooks is in a car and says something that deserves a underscore of menace. And that is exactly what happens - because a busload of musicians is in the next lane. One of the best scenes of the movie.

But then panders to the film's composer and sings the theme from Driving Miss Daisy. Ugh. It's all right, but to put Zimmer in with them, especially with THAT score, was super weak.

I haven't seen The Holiday since it was in theaters, but doesn't he specifically mention the score to The Mission as well? My memory could be completely wrong, though.

"If you ask me, it was...foul play!"

Great moment. (And a great score. Where is it?)

"You know I can't write music for the movies...""

"I told you it was too good, too good for the damn picture!"

After watching a short animated film (within this movie), the man says "This score is only temporary. It all has very dramatic music, of course. A march or something hasn't been written yet..."

JURASSIC PARK

My favorite has to be from this film.

Two middle-aged people are having sex on a sail boat in the sun. Near the.. uhm.. finish the women looks up and says: 'where did the orchestra came from?'

Legend.

Yeah, that's a classic, although no specific composer is mentioned -- no reference to "real" film music, in other words.

If memory serves, there's a similar comment in SCROOGED, when Bill Murray screens an advertisement of some sort, with Elfman's satirical advertisement music.

You're doing it wrong. You have to scratch the bar.

You know what the trouble about real life is? There's no danger music.

From?

If we stretch this to TV lines, I remember one character saying,

"But listen to the music! He's evil!"

"So you're the guy who writes the drone?" - Finding Sarah Marshall (though it's about TV cop procedural "music" )
