The latest MSNBC commercial features a song that really caught my attention. It had a somewhat Irish flare which I really love. I finally went looking for it tonight and found it - on YouTube of course.

The song is entitled "Come With Me Now" by a band called Kongos. It is a group of four brothers and their last name is Kongos. Just felt I should add that smile. I listened to a few of their other releases and I really like them. It is never too late to discover something new I reckon.

Oh yeah, that song plays on regular rotation on DC-101 radio in Washington. I haven't read the lyrics but it sounds like "War, come with me now". Perhaps I'm hearing it incorrectly.

Out of curiosity I looked it up:

There are lyrics out there, and it's not 'war', just 'whoa' and the song seems to be about a conformist man's need to 'descend' to the level of his 'nature' soul and earthier passions and out of his 'head' and conditioned responses to some more primitive instinctual level.

I'm not sure why it might suggest anything Irish! The instrumental opener sounds Louisiana/Cajun to me, and the descending intervals of the chant Native American.

It's a 'computer nerds feel the call of repressed nature' sort of thing.

I didn't say it "suggested" anything Irish. I said it had an Irish flare, patricularly the opening. This Irish girl feels this way and I can also hear the Native American tone as well.

I simply said I liked the tune, I wasn't expecting it to be broken down and analyzed. The last thing I think of when I listen to this song is the repressed nature of a computer nerd. I prefer to just listen and enjoy it.

Adam, I thought the word was "war" as well. In all honesty, I did not look up the lyrics until after I read your comment. I was too busy tapping my foot to the beat (boy does that me make me sound old). Tapping beats twerking I guess.

It would appear you've chosen to take my answer the wrong way. All I did was to point out what the lyrics meant, which is just what the band themselves would want me to do. The song stands in a long tradition of 'modern man needs to become more in tune with his dark instincts'. God forbid anyone should listen to song's lyrics.

But what would I know, living in Ireland.

I wasnt't aware I was taking it the wrong way. Your recent take on the lyrics makes total sense. I guess I was just caught up in the melody and I envy you living in Ireland, truly.

I'm someone who doesn't care for most modern music, but I've been liking this one. The music video is interesting, too. Also used in the latest Expendable 3 trailer.

“Come With Me Now” is also being used in the Ram Truck commercial, with Sam Elliott doing the voice-over. Heard it more than a few times during “Morning Joe” breaks on MSNBC.

I was not aware of this group or the song. My first impression was that it was reminiscent of Horslips's "Dearg Doom". Not necessarily in melody or lyrics... more just in the "feel" of the arrangement.

This also serves as a shameless plug of Horslips. Love that group.
Please forgive me, Eee-Dee. big grin

Are you kidding Octoberman? I love to take a listen to new groups. Like a lot of folks here, I step outside the film music circle all the time. Just listened to Horslips "King of the Faries". New fan here - thank you.
