Last night I enjoyed the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra doing these:
1. 20th Century Fox Fanfare 2. Mission: Impossible - theme and "The Plot" 3. Orion`s Belt - (Great theme from Norwegian film) - Youtube clip with theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIWtKnigjWM 4. Inception - "Time" 5. Harry Potter - "Hedwig`s Theme" 6. 1001 Gram - "Suite" (Norwegian film, local composer Kaada) 7. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - theme 8. Skyfall - Main Title 9. Blue Velvet - Mysteries of Love 10. Death in Venice - Mahlers 5th, adagietto 11. Ragnarok - Main title (Great score for recent Norwegian Indiana Jones style film) 12. The English Patient - Suite 13. The Godfather - Love Theme 14. The Rock - Suite
The suite by Hans Zimmer from The Rock was really good! Orion`s Belt was also great, and less 80s than the original. Great symphonic treatment of THAT theme, that most Norwegians treat as second national anthem.
Wow, that's a tremendous program, Morten. I knew about this concert for a while (I would have made the trip from Oslo if I could have afforded it), and I'm so delighted every time there is a film music concert here in Norway.
Stavanger SO has also become increasingly good at performing film scores, as they've been doing lots of individual film scores in the last years (including Kaada's stuff), so I'm sure they sounded great.
Was the concert recorded for broadcast in any way?
Nice selection, but 100 % orchestral versions of primarlily electronic-based music like Orion's Belt, Inception and The Rock are not particularly my cup of tea.
I would have said the same if a guy on a keyboard performed the Star Wars theme. Not the way it was supposed to sound.
