So folks, what are your favourite soundtrack cues from the Bond films? I do not want to know about the main title themes, I just want to know about those small moments - those score cues that make you turn up the volume.
I have many, but if I had to choose three it would be:
1. Into Miami from Goldfinger 2. The Hovercraft trip that Bond makes in Diamonds Are Forever - the really juicy licks of the Bond theme, especially that last trumpet punch! 3. The Motorcycle cue from The Spy Who Loved Me, when it fires off the rocket thing and tries to blow up the Lotus. Great rythm and really glamourus action scoring!
Since it's my favourite piece of music - bar none! - I've got to plump for JB007/Sean Connery walking into the casino in Nassau - track: Thunderball from the film of the same name ...
But there are many others which I love to hear ...
007 Takes The Lektor (From Russia With Love) Dawn Raid On Fort Knox (Goldfinger Gunbarrel and Manhunt (Diamonds are Forever) Fight at Kobe Docks (You Only Live Twice) Gumbold's Safe (OHMSS) Death Of Fiona (Thunderball)
My favorite has always been " stealing the lector" from FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. Here in America it was even used in some cities to introduce the local evening news on some tv channels back in the '60's.
Among others, 'Backseat Driver' from Tomorrow Never Dies. It has everything AND the kitchen sink, and it's laid over a busy car-chase/shoot-out. The sound mix is a wonder.
From "The Man With The Golden Gun" 1. Scaramanga's Fun House (and The Return to Scaramanga's Fun House)
From "Thunderball" 2. Underwater Mayhem/Death of Largo (and Cafe Martinique)
From "Octopussy" 3. The Palace Fight (and Bond Meets Octopussy)
From "Moonraker" 4. Flight Into Space (and Bond Arrives In Rio)
From "For Your Eyes Only" 5. Ski... Shoot.... Jump.... (and Runaway)

There is a lot more - but those are just samples - there are times when other cues are better than the ones I just mentioned - these - are my favorites at the time of writing. (BTW..... The best use of the James Bond Theme is "Freefall" from Monnraker. My favorite rendition of the 007 Theme is in From Russia With Love - "007 Takes The Lektor")
Corinne Put Down from Moonraker Golden Girl from Goldfinger Bond Below Disco Volante from Thunderball Ski Chase from On Her Majesty's Secret Service Murder At The Fair from The Living Daylights Mountains and Sunsets, Bond Averts WW3, and Fight at Kobe Dock all from You Only Live Twice.
There are so many amazing cues in the Bond films, and some of them still unreleased, (Free Fall from Moonraker, Bond Arrives in India from Octopussy, for example).
Oh, and that very, very brief cue - a small and soft melody line - not in the film, but on the expanded album. It starts 1 minute into "DUSK AT PIZ GLORIA".
Very John Barry and so typical of him writing these lovely small "almost-themes". IN most of his works there are these under-developed little gems, that could have become great tunes on their own, but - in the abundance of talent - he can afford to scatter them around almost nonchalantly.
