The track called "First Job," which was included on the LP, clocks in at 1:43.

Interestingly, the liner notes of the LP indicate a time of 5:20 on the back cover graphics.

The expanded CD, which contains tracks that did not make the LP, includes a track called "First Job, Part 2," clocking in at 3:31.

When you add the two together, they add up to 5:14.

Given differences in times resulting from tape speed and crossfades, do you think that both parts were originally going to be married to create the 5:20 track on the album, and then for some reason, they opted to use only the first segment?

It is an interesting question and I wish I remembered the project better to give you an answer!

I love the score and was very happy with the CD.

Well, two years on and I think I can say that Onya's probably right about the anomaly on the back sleeve of the original LP. "First Job" is mentioned as clocking in at 5:20, which would indeed be, give or take a few seconds, the total time of "First Jobs 1 and 2" (the previously released track is 1:43, then adding on the new FSM track).

I think it's logical to assume that the tracks were going to be initially released combined, then the idea was scrapped after the sleeve had been printed. It's not the only anomaly though - The last track on Side B is listed as running 1:02, whereas it's really only 38 seconds long, and "The Really Big Heist" has a 6:54 running time according to the LP sleeve, but it's actually about 45 seconds longer than that.

Great release! I'm going to bump the other thread in order to continue my musical rabbit (as opposed to my dry mathematical one).
