TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23

STAR TREK 3---William Shatner may have a cameo in the sequel which would reunite him with Leonard Nimoy as Spock. A source said Shatner's cameo, "is plot-driven and integral enough that it might just survive any future [script] revisions." Shatner's cameo in the original reboot movie was removed from the script. If Shatner agrees to appear, it would be the first time Captain Kirk and Spock have appeared together since STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY in 1991.

TAKEN 3---photo released from the latest sequel in Bryan Mills goes on the run after being framed for a murder. Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen and Forest Whitaker star.

JURASSIC WORLD---director Colin Trevorrow released a photo titled "Autumn" showing the road sign that Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) knocked down after he fled with stolen dinosaur embryos from the original movie.

LAVALANTULA---Syfy movie underway will reunite the POLICE ACADEMY cast of Steve Guttenberg, Leslie Easterbrook and Michael Winslow. The plot involves a washed-up action hero star who must save Los Angeles from giant lava-spewing tarantulas who emerge from volcanoes in the Santa Monica Mountains. Mike Mendez (BIG ASS SPIDERS) is the director.

TWO AND A HALF MEN---Charlie Sheen has expressed an interest in appearing in the series' last episode, "I've reached out to them and they've reached back. We're trying to figure out what makes the most sense. If they figure it out like I've presented it to them and they want to include me in some final send-off, I'm available and I'm showing up early. If not, it's on them."

THE GREAT WALL---Bryan Cranston (BREAKING BAD, GODZILLA) is in talks to star in this movie set in 15th century China where British soldiers discover the Great Wall is being built to keep out deadly monsters. Matt Damon is also in talks to star.

MARVEL'S AGENT CARTER---Shea Whigham (BOARDWALK EMPIRE) will play Agent Carter's boss, SSR Chief Roger Dooley, on the ABC eight-episode miniseries.

11/22/63---Hulu nine-hour miniseries underway based on the Stephen King novel about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. King and JJ Abrams are co-executive producers.

THE THICKET---Peter Dinklage (GAME OF THRONES) stars in this movie set in 1900s Texas in which a man teams up with a diminutive bounty hunter, an ex-slave's son and a prostitute to save his sister who was kidnapped by a murderous gang.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE---Bryan Singer was confirmed as the sequel's director.

Shatner would be a terrific cameo with Nimoy.

I thought the whole point of a Star Trek reboot was to do new things? All this recycling just proves no one knows how the f*** to write.

You are totally correct of course,

I mean they are taking three entire movies just to get free of San Francisco and earth for a real adventure.

But I will happily take the Shatner / Nimoy, they will be the best thing about an overwrought, spectacle filled piece of effects craptacular directed by a novice hack newby director.

It seems to me that reboots exist precisely so the writers and producers DON'T have to come up with any new ideas.

with these pictures nowadays, about 50% of the picture is post production anyway, and they do not really need writers for special effects and explosions. They do not really need expert directors that much when the picture is handed off to ILM for 18 months either.

Nonsense! That's not how you make a good film!

Exactly, we agree, but that is what is being done.

They are hiring novice directors because it is controlled like one giant project management pipeline, and more time is spent on technical post prod than traditional production by far.

Well for Christs sake at this rate will have George Takei/Commander Sulu cameo by the fourth movie!
I guess they feel forcing the old cast into the reboots brings a decent amount of TOS fans into the theater.

Shatner is the real Kirk - Chris Pine is replaceable, as is the rest of the new cast.
And these new pictures have not gotten anywhere near the character richness and thematic depth of even the worst of the original movies.

STAR TREK, SCHMAR TREK....I'm delighted to see plot elements from JURASSIC PARK return! That's my interest here.

Ha ha . . . and I'd like to see the lone toilet the bloodsucking lawyer vacated (when he was unlawfully gobbled by Miss T. Rex) being evaluated by whatever team is sent over to investigate in Jurassic World. Someone could remark that it predates the current crop of dinosaurs . . . or something! wink
