Just for fun I have compiled a list over my favorite music albums from Norway the last 30 years. Roughly said there are about 20 instrumental/electronic albums here, and about 10 pop/rock albums with vocals. No soundtracks made it to the final list, but several of these artists could indeed have been hired more as film composers. I guess some of these artists are known also internationally. Comments welcome! 1983 Erik Wøllo - WHERE IT ALL BEGINS 1984 Erik Wøllo - DREAMS OF PYRAMIDS 1985 A-ha - HUNTING HIGH AND LOW 1986 Thowsen - CALL ME STRANGER 1987 Egil Fylling - BOUND FOR SPACE 1988 Woodlands - WOODLANDS 1989 Jan Bang - FROZEN FEELINGS 1990 Mercury Motors - SMASH THE MOON 1991 Karsten Brustad - INTARSIA 1992 Bel Canto - SHIMMERING, WARM AND BRIGHT 1993 Øystein Sevåg - LINK 1994 Sverre Knut Johansen - DISTANT SHORE 1995 Seigmen - METROPOLIS 1996 Jan Garbarek - VISIBLE WORLD 1997 Current - ENTER THE DREAM 1998 Bel Canto - RUSH 1999 Jan Garbarek - RITES 2000 Christian Høy Knudsen - HAV 2001 Green Isac - GROUNDRUSH 2002 Bjørn Lynne - COLONY 2003 Amethystium - APHELION 2004 Am And The Uv - CANDY THUNDER 2005 Anneli M. Drecker - FROLIC 2006 Bermuda Triangle - 33 RPM 2007 Erik Wøllo - ELEVATIONS 2008 Glenn Main Henriksen - ELECTRONIC SECRET 2009 Ingolv Haaland - JOURNEY 2010 Erik Wøllo - GATEWAY 2011 Secret Garden - WINTER POEM 2012 Sverre Knut Johansen - PLANETS 2013 Sverre Knut Johansen - LIGHTS

What do you think of the 86, 88 and 89 music clips, Thomas?

Nice list! Not really the kind of music I'm listening too though (although Nordheim is a highly original guy), but good to see that Norwegian music are recognized outside its physical borders. Have you heard Nordheim's music to the 1986 film "Vilde, The Wild One"?

Have you heard Nordheim's music to the 1986 film "Vilde, The Wild One"? Yeah, I realize you aren't asking for classical albums, but the labels the artists and the music are Norwegian so you might be interested on that basis. I haven't seen or heard Nordheim's Norwegian film music, but I'm aware of them (such as his score for a 1981 film about witchcraft). I'd be interested to hear "Vilde, The Wild One". There are (or were?) a few soundtrack labels from Sweden, but I don't recall ever encountering a soundtrack on a Norwegian label. (would SAE carry Norwegian titles?) I still haven't found out if Nordheim wrote original music for Vilde or not. Film composers Geir Bøhren and Bent Åserud are also credited with music, but I somehow doubt they collaborated with Nordheim. About soundtracks on a Norwegian label, they are indeed few and far between, but they exist.

Nordheim's score for A DAY IN THE LIFE OF IVAN DENISEVITCH is utterly fascinating and hyponitzing. My favourite by him. I don't really have that much to contribute in this thread, btw, as my listening habits have mostly veered outside our own borders (beyond some obvious choices, like a-ha). Well, you really miss out on some good stuff by not exploring Norwegian music further, Thor. What do you think of the 2012 clip by Sverre Knut Johansen, for instance?

What do you think of the 86, 88 and 89 music clips, Thomas? I particularly liked your '88 choice Jon by Woodlands. Not familiar with them, but I might seek out some more of their stuff if it is of a similar vein. Incidentally, I would have listed Morten Harket's album 'Wild Seed' for '95. That's a fantastic album, some of his best ever work. Also, what is the Anneli Drecker solo album like? Woodlands were a local band from my city Kristiansand. I'm even remotely related to the drummer. They only released a brilliant 5-track LP in 1988. The singer is Jan Bang who also sings on my 1989 choice, as a solo artist. Frolic by Anneli Drecker is a really good album in the Bel Canto vein. Here is the brilliant single: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1BNr4P_X3A She also released the album Tundra in 2000.

It's OK, especially before that cheesy flute(?) sampler comes in, but not really my preferred type of electronica. The soundscape is a bit messy. If I had a wikipedia list of Norwegian albums released each of those years (or some such thing), I could probably make a list. But I don't think such a thing exists.

Well, the way I did it was just checking my own collection (which I have on a list, with year of release). So it was quite easy. But if you don't have a such a list, it may be more challenging.
