WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24

TRUE DETECTIVE---HBO confirmed that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will be starring in Season 2. Farrell will play corrupt police detective Ray Velcoro. Vaughn will play mobster Frank Semyon whose empire is in danger after his business partner is murdered. Justin Lin (FAST & FURIOUS) will direct the first two episodes.

STAR TREK 3---co-writer and presumed director Roberto Orci commented on reports that the sequel script has cameo roles for William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy as Captain Kirk and Spock, "Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."
Shatner tweeted, "Let's talk ST. I don't know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it's just rhetoric to cause hype."

INTERSTELLAR---new photo released from the Christopher Nolan sci fi movie showing Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII---Oscar Isaac would not disclose his role in the sequel or confirm rumors that he is the new owner of the Millennium Falcon, but confirmed he's filmed scenes with Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, "They're such funny people. Carrie is hilarious and doing such cool work. Harrison is back. He went on hiatus for a little while, but he's 150 percent back. It's pretty amazing to see him bounce back. He looks incredible. Everyone's having a really good time. (Director) J.J. (Abrams) sets that tone."

GOTHAM---the premiere episode drew an impressive eight million viewers.

HUNTERS---Syfy ordered 13 episodes of this series based on the Whitley Strieber novel ALIEN HUNTERS. The plot involves a secret government agency that pursues alien terrorists. Gale Anne Hurd (THE WALKING DEAD) is the producer. Natalie Chaidez (HEROES, 12 MONKEYS) will write the script.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.---photo released of Adrianne Palicki as Mockingbird who appears in the October 21 episode.

TRUTH---Robert Redford, Cate Blanchett and Elisabeth Moss star in this movie about the Dan Rather and 60 MINUTES scandal involving the accusation that George W. Bush received preferential treatment in the Texas Air National Guard to avoid duty in the Vietnam War.

CAPTAIN AMERICA 3---Jeremy Renner hinted that Hawkeye might be in the sequel, "I'm happy to be the ensemble. I'm not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means. I think he's a utility guy that can bounce around into other people's universes a little bit, especially 'Cap 3.' There's whispers of that."

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES---the GAME OF THRONES pair of Lena Headey and Charles Dance have joined the zombie movie cast.

TAKEN 3---Liam Neeson said the third movie in the series will probably be his last, "It's a rollicking good story. But I think this is the end. If I feel audiences saying, 'Come on, he's 62, enough is enough,' I'm very sensitive to that and if I pick up that vibe it will all stop. And I'll start playing dads or grandfathers,. But I keep myself pretty fit and my knees are still great. And it's fun."

THE HATEFUL EIGHT---Viggo Mortensen is in negotiations to play a "ruthless gang leader" in the Quentin Tarantino Western.

FIRST MAN---astronaut Neil Armstrong movie underway based on the book. Damien Chazelle (WHIPLASH) is the director.

THE DROWNING---movie underway based on the video game in which an oil rig accident results in people becoming mutated monsters. The script will be written by the duo of Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt (THE EXPENDABLES 3, OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN).

BREATH OF BONES---movie underway based on the three-issue comic book. Andrew Adamson (SHREK) is the director.

THE 9TH LIFE OF LOUIS DRAX---Aaron Paul and Jamie Dornan star in this movie based on the novel.

FLOORS---Walt Disney Pictures movie underway based on the children's book.

Too bad it was mediocre. Meanwhile, it only took a year but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally seems to have become a decent show.

Couldn't agree more with both points. The first half of the season for A.O.S. was pretty much unwatchable. Then it slowly began to pick up... and I do mean slowly. I believe this is because the show was shackled by the movies. Now it appears to have been set free, so maybe we'll have a great season.

One can only hope.

I fear Gotham just isn't going have that "wow" factor, and will eventually fall to the wayside.

I'm just trying to figure out where they'll go with it. I feel like it could have been a great concept for a miniseries or one-season show, moving through the years from where it is until Bruce dons the cape. But as they set it up, as a crime drama with a bunch of young Batman characters in it, I don't see how the show is going to support both its crime arcs with Jim Gordon cleaning house and its Batman "mythology" stuff for any length of time. And on top of that it just wasn't a very well written hour of television. But maybe it'll find its legs.

Gave up on S.H.I.E.L.D after 5 or so episodes. Terrible scripts and acting. Out of the gate Gotham was much better, but could improve. If they focus on violence over characterization they will lose me.
