So many simply superb and great ones throughout the run of the series, but one always stuck out for me and affected me like no other. It is George Duning's wonderful "Metamorphosis."
Please share your fave. Thanks.

Ok, Zooba, you are going crazy-too-much with all of these Trek threads. But I can't resist.

Echoing the Stonn thread, I still have to go with Amok Time. No wait, The Corbomite Maneuver. Umm, I mean The Doomsday Machine.

I'll just stick with Amok Time. My favorite TV music ever.

Because of the LLL box set, my favorite switched from The Doomsday Machine over to The Enemy Within. Talented man, that Mr. Kaplan. I don't like TDM any less now, it's just my admiration for the TEW score grew as I listened to it on it's own.

Very difficult question! Too much great music. smile
Possibly Fried's Amok Time. Or the two Fielding scores or Kaplan's Enemy Within.

The Doomsday Machine, followed by The Enemy Within. Then there are a whole cluster of runners up including Spectre of the Gun, The Empath, and The Corbomite Maneuver. Strangely for me, one of the great fan favorites, Amok Time, is not among my personal favorites.

Charlie X.

The others are very nice too.

I've always wondered if Amok Time is such a favorite of mine because the episode is unique in dealing with an ongoing story among the main characters.

I first saw it somewhere in the 70s after I had seen many other episodes (some from the time of first run even). And I remember where the episode is strongest - how the relationship between Spock and Nurse Chapel was finally, really dealt with.

I remember being kind of shocked when Spock throws the soup, and then being genuinely touched by his later apology to Christine.

We just didn't get these moments in episodic TV in those days of eternal resets - and this is why the main Spock theme still hits me in the gut every time I listen.

My wife and I adore "The Empath" score. We think its a great episode all round except for the Vians shower curtains.

Probably..... Shore Leave

But I also like..... The Paradise Syndrome

and..... Amok Time

That's the order of my top three - but if you asses it - you've got an episode from each season - and all three of them belong to Gerald Fried.

That's funny - I always thought my favorite Star Trek composer was Alexander Courage!

George Duning's "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" is my favorite.

I'd have to go with The Doomsday Machine -- it's the score that integrates best with an episode to help tell the story thematically. I respect Amok Time more than I actually like it, I think... the wild mood swings in it can be a harsh listen if you're not in the mood. I also really like George During's two scores for Metamorphosis and Return to Tomorrow -- they play well back-to-back on the LLL set.

Too many scores stand out, but F. Steiner's City on the Edge of Forever has probably my favorite cue. It's the music underscoring the scene when Spock inquires, "...And where do you estimate we belong, Miss Keeler?"

Oh wow, this is a great topic and one I frequently find myself asking. It's really hard for me to name one since I love pretty much every aingle one!!!

Hmmmm...I think Charlie X might be my absolute favorite, though.

The Doomsday Machine, but hearing an clip of a track of Elaan of Troyius is what convinced me to buy the LLL set, possibly the best music purchase I ever made.

I would say THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE except THE PARADISE SYNDROME is my sentimental favorite. The latter is, however, as atypical a TREK score as SPECTRE OF THE GUN, though no less brilliant.

And ELAAN OF TROYIUS - great stuff!

My favorite Star Trek episode score would be whichever one included the most re-used music. That way I could get as many of those motifs and "stingers" that made the music so memorable. Don't know which episode(s) that would be, though. Those of you who plunked down for the TOS megabox (or were handed one by Adam B.) would be able to determine exactly which episodes have the most re-used music.

The Cage by a mile.

Man trap is next, sounding much like a TZ score.

I very much like those as well. The Cage contains lots of Forbidden Planet-style electronic flourishes.

The Doomsday Machine, absolutely, but The Enemy Within is really a very close second (I really wish Sol Kaplan had done more for the series). When I do a "best of" playlist for the episode scores, I never leave out a single cue from either score. No other episodes reach that level for me.

Following is Where No Man Has Gone Before, then...oh Zod, it would just be easier to say which I really don't like.

I can't believe I've had this set for almost 2 years now and I still listen to it regularly.

Well, that depends on which season you want to listen to.

From season I, it's a real close tie between a few episodes. I think Charlie X, Enemy Within & Naked Time were all used the most. But even the others were used a lot. Season one really re-used every episode's music and quite often. There really weren't any episodes the editors did not re-use, unlike season 2 & 3.

From Season II, I'd say Friday's Child and Doomsday Machine were re-used the most.

Season III...tough call, but Spock's Brain was re-used in nearly every one that had tracked music.
