About time for this to be remastered and released. Especially seeing the Bluray just dropped. Hoping some label has this in the works... Have great memories of this film and score. Saw it with my dad back on its first run release. Recorded the end credits on a tape deck and played it to death. I want this.

I'm surprised one of the labels hasn't released this yet.

Me too, I'd gladly spring for a release.

The synth score is amazingly dynamic. On closer inspection, there's traditional percussion riding sidecar (or is it the other way round), which gives the final balance that uniqueness. It's extraordinarily perky.

Buysoundtrax have this release, which I'm very pleased to have obtained from them. If you don't have it check out the samplz coz, my word, it's still there against the oddz:

The BSX release is absolutely a great release and sounds pretty fine do not miss it but i still keep wandering why the last track sounds so awfull compare to the rest.

It's not a "BSX release". It's a "promotional" edition produced many many years ago by Supertracks (aka Supercollector) - longer in runtime than the old MCA LP, but omitting one of the "disco" tracks from the LP. This CD was widely available over all the years, by Supertracks itself and then, after the label and shop officially closed, they sold it on Ebay. Now BSX solds it again.

And: I don't see any loss in quality during the last tracks. What do you mean?

I have the bsx release and that last track, my favorite, has horrendous hiss. The score needs a mastered job... not sure if the bsx is complete though... anyone know?

It's a NOT a BSX release.

BLUE THUNDER was produced by Super Tracks Music a long time ago as a promotional release for the composer.

It's absolutely time for this score to get reissued and a well deserved facelift. I hope it happens soon.

You mean "Murphy's Law"? It's one of the two non-score disco-tracks of the theme produced for the original MCA LP-album. It has nothing to do with the film. It's an album track performed by a group around Rubinstein called "The Beepers" and was the last track on side 1 of the LP. The other disco track exclusively produced for the LP, a "dance version" of the main theme which was closing the original LP side 2, is missing from the CD version by the way.

And again: neither it is nor it ever was a BSX release. It's a promo album and strictly speaking it's forbidden to talk about it on this board.

Hmm..I seem to remember that a version I saw of the film used "Murphy's law" over the end credits.

The last track was taken from the only existing copy available of a BLUE THUNDER cassette tape. How do I know? It was my cassette I purchased in the early 80's that gave it's life to be baked, recorded and destroyed in the process about 10 years later. So, please, show some respect for the tape that gave it's life so we could enjoy the end title theme in any format at all.

Your memory serves correctly.

It depends on where you saw the movie. Blue Thunder had it's world premiere in late January/early February of 1983 in Germany. This version had the original End Title music Rubinstein composed for the scene ("Ride With The Angels") intact. You can still hear this piece in the German DVD of the movie. For the US release three months later (in May 1983) the piece was replaced. The German version was also a bit longer than the US release (http://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=4680869), but because of the US video master this scene is not on DVD anymore.

The promo is still available on Amazon.com, but one of the reviews states it's not the original score at all. Any thoughts?

Strictly speaking it's not a boot, is it? It may exist in a grey zone though.

It's definitely the original score , not a re-recording. However, after seeing the film again I noticed that some music is missing from the CD, maybe 2 or 3 brief cues but nothing really important. At the same time, some segments on the CD are not heard in the film.

It may be so that some of the missing music on the CD is available on the LP; in the cues "River Chase" and "Hide and Seek," which run 12 minutes (as separate tracks) compared to 6:59 as a combined track on the CD.

It's a misnomer on the LP. The LP track "River Chase" is on the CD as "Adios J.A.F.O.".

I must apologize for some misinformation I gave above. I've just rewatched my Blue Thunder DVD. Also here, in the German version, the original "End Title" music is gone. It's now, like everywhere else, "Murphy's Law", perhaps due to the new 5.1 mix. My confusion came perhaps from the old German VHS tape I still have ("Das Fliegende Auge"), which has "Ride Of The Angels" at the end (like I saw it back in early 1983 in the cinema) and which also has the scenes which were deleted for the US release (see link above).

OK, thanks for setting things straight.

Btw, I noticed that the beginning of the track "Ride with the angel" can be heard just before the end credits ("Murphy's Law").

I very much like Anthony Marinelli and Jim Cypherd's synth work on this score. The synths
were recorded at Sound arts studio in LA and included a Synclavier II (with 32 FM voices and monophonic 16 bit, 50 kHz sampling), Prophet 5, Jupiter 8, Moog Modular system 55 and Roland system 100M.
(source for the info: Anthony Marinelli)
