Whoa! Unused John Carpenter themes? This sounds like a treasure trove of serious coolness.

This is a surprise and I'm hoping it's not a modern synth re-recording. There's the unused Fog stuff and also some early, alternate Prince of Darkness stuff that he scrapped. I have a feeling this will be from more recent work, but that's just a guess. Yeah, more music from his anonymous bar band is exactly what we need! Bring on that early Fog score, though. That would be beautiful.

There's some really good stuff on here, but alas a few stinkers as well. Some tracks seem unfinished and really don't sound like JC at all. I honestly don't agree with this at all, and have listened to this streaming on NPR repeatedly throughout the day. I'm as giddy as a schoolboy hearing these throwbacks. I've just about demolished "Vortex" and "Night" listening to their initial streams, so going through "Obsidian" through "Purgatory" today was a revelation. After damn near 10 hours straight of nothing but this, I think I would say this is the coolest prog rock album I've heard since discovering classics by Can, Goblin, Tangerine Dream, Yes, King Crimson, etc. you name it! The fun thing is you can hear Carpenter and his collaborators drawing influence from those guys (especially Goblin) and even recent acts like Umberto and Steve Moore's work. I am dying to get my vinyl copy of this (and digital download!) but this stream will suffice for the coming week. Check it out! http://www.npr.org/2015/01/25/379336431/first-listen-john-carpenter-lost-themes

I haven't heard all the samples yet. Didn't want to spoil it until I got the actual CD. I'm in the same boat. Saw the NPR page and was severely torn, but I'll put it off till next week. It appears Carpenter's still working on music though. We're working on another album as we speak, Dark Blues. We've gotten about 40 or 50 minutes worth, but we're still tracking and playing around with it. We'll see what feels good. What can we expect on Dark Blues? We'll see how it gets released. Maybe nobody wants to listen to it. We don't care: it's just making music and having fun. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6450980/john-carpenter-lost-themes-debut-album-interview
