THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9

GHOSTBUSTERS---director Paul Feig (BRIDESMAIDS) said the movie will be a total reboot not connected to the original movie and will feature an all-female Ghostbusters team, "My favorite thing to do is work with funny women. I was like, what if it was an all female cast? If they were all women? Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun. And then I thought, well, what if we just make it new? It's not coming into the world that existed before. It's always hard if the world has gone through this big ghost attack, how do you do it again? I wanted to come into our world where there's talk of ghosts but they're not really credible, and so what would happen in our world if this happened today?"
Feig added he would welcome back the original cast such as Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson and Rick Moranis, "As far as I'm concerned, anybody wants to come back I welcome with open arms. It would just be in different roles now, but it would be fun to figure out how to do that."

FOCUS---photo released from the movie starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie (THE WOLF OF WALL STREET) in which a conman falls in love with his beautiful protege.

THE FLASH---the premiere drew 4.5 million viewers which made it the CW's highest-rated premier since THE VAMPIRE DIARIES in 2009.
Also, CW head Mark Pedowitz commented on the possibility of a third CW/DC Comics series featuring Ra's Al Ghul, "There are discussions going on, but I can't tell you what they are."

DIRTY DOZEN IN SPACE---untitled Fox pilot described as a "Dirty Dozen in deep space" in which a mercenary rescue team is sent to investigate a distress signal from a prison spaceship that crashed on an unexplored planet. Len Wiseman (LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, UNDERWORLD) is the director/co-producer.

JAY LENO---Leno will reportedly return to tv in a CNBC series about his love for cars.

IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT---new Showtime series underway based on the novel which was made into a 1967 movie that starred Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger.

TRANSPARENT---Amazon Studios renewed the series for Season 2.

X-MEN---rumors say Quicksilver and Multiple Man might be in the new live-action tv series which could also have a female mutant as the main character.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY---Ryan Murphy is hoping to get Jessica Lange to return for another season by creating a new character for her with a reduced role, "It always starts with a character for Jessica, so I think I'd have to present her with something she was very interested in. Before, I was met with a really quick 'No.' Now, I'm hearing, 'Well, let's keep talking.' So I thought that was a very good sign."

EVERY EXQUISITE THING---movie rights to the novel by Matthew Quick (THE SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK) were bought. The novel is about a student-athlete "who starts to get in touch with her wild side after reading a cult classic novel".

THE SANDMAN---new Dario Argento (SUSPIRA) horror movie starring Iggy Pop as a serial killer stalking a German forest. Argento is seeking to raise $250,000 on Indiegogo to finance the movie.

SCHOOL OF ROCK---new Nickelodeon series based on the movie with Tony Cavalero playing Dewey Finn. Jack Black played Dewey in the movie.

XX---short horror film anthology underway with female directors and stars including Karyn Kusama (JENNIFER'S BODY), Mary Harron (AMERICAN PSYCHO) and Jennifer Lynch (SURVEILLANCE).

SEEDS OF YESTERDAY---Lifetime's fourth tv movie underway from the FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC novel series.

Oh, that dirty little word... reboot.

Paul Feig and Ghostbusters! A recipe for shit! I'm already prepared for Wiig and McCarthy to stink up the place with their "comedy". One has two characters in her, the other is one of the all-time worst ad-libbers I've ever had the displeasure to endure.

I hope this reboot stalls and stalls hard.

Yes...yes sir, I do believe so. big grin

It would be best to let this die...just not 'reboot' or do an actual sequel...just let it go. Based on the track record and comedy stylings of the writer / director and possible stars, it may an abomination big grin

But if you have to do a reboot...I suppose this is not as vomit inducing as maybe Steve Carrell or Will Ferrel would be. So there's that.

A horrible idea. I will be mightily impressed if this turns out good. When it turned out they couldn't make a direct sequel (due to Murray's decline and Ramis' death), they should have just let it be, IMO.

Intriguing. I love riffs on the ALIEN concept, which this basically sounds like.

I think a direct sequel could be nothing but terrible. If they're doing another movie with the Ghostbusters title, I'm happy that it (at this point) has no ties to the previous series.

Well, I'm a sucker for continuity in franchises and tend to prefer that over reboots 99% of the time -- even if the prequel/sequel/whatever isn't as good as it should. In either case, I think it would have been much better than what is being produced now.

Some things are just best left alone. Some films were just right for their time. The right actors, the right story, the right sensitivities, with the right audience. Lightning in a bottle and all.

Gosh, maybe we'll get to see Melissa McCarthy attacked by a ghost while taking a crap in a sink...
