LAKESHORE RECORDS PRESENTS
THE CANAL ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK ALBUM
Featuring Original Score By Ceiri Torjussen
(October 7, 2014– Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the THE CANAL – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album digitally on October 7th, The album features original score by Ceiri Torjussen (TEST, BIG ASS SPIDER).
“Ivan had two requests for my score to THE CANAL. First, to make the musical instruments largely unrecognizable and second, to do this without relying on electronic sounds. To make acoustic music that came from a world beyond the concert hall or studio,” says Torjussen. “The film called for strange noises and disturbing whispers, deriving from the organic roots of the wood, stings, keys and breath of each instrument.”
Multi award-winning composer Ceiri Torjussen’s (pronounced Kay-Ree) music was described by the Los Angeles Times as a “sudden bolt of creative lightning.” Welsh-born, but based in Los Angeles, his credits run the gamut of independent films, documentaries, network TV, animation and numerous large-budget studio films.
Among Torjussen’s recent projects are his score to TEST, winner of the 2013 Outfest and featured at the 2014 Berlinale, and BIG ASS SPIDER! He composed additional music for REPO MEN, heart-thumping action music for the blockbusters LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION and orchestral action comedy music for SCARY MOVIE II. He received a Daytime EMMY® Nomination for Best Original Score for his music to the hit animated series DIVE OLLY DIVE!
Being an accomplished composer of concert music, Torujussen has been commissioned by groups such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, The Vale of Glamorgan Festival and the Henry Mancini Institute. His work has been recorded and released commercially and performed worldwide, including the USA, UK, Germany, France and India.
THE CANAL tells the story of David Williams (Rupert Evans) and his wife, Alice (Hannah Hoekstra), who move into a beautiful period house by the canal with their small child, Billy. As David begins to suspect that his wife is cheating on him, he also starts to have nightmarish visions of an evil presence he believes inhabits his home.
“I asked him for a score that sounded like no other, that contained unique sounds and textures, that was terrifying, evocative and atmospheric, that would be the heartbeat/ the pulse of the film,” said director, Ivan Kavanagh. “He delivered all of that and more. I don’t think I’ve heard anything quite like it. It is the perfect score for my film.”
THE ORCHARD presents THE CANAL, coming to theaters and VOD on October 10, 2104. Lakeshore Records will release THE CANAL – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album digitally on October 7, 2014.
