WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15

DOCTOR STRANGE---the shortlist of candidates to replace the departed Joaquin Phoenix are: Ewan McGregor, Jared Leto ("aggressively pursuing" the role), Jake Gyllenhaal ("quite interested" in the role), Oscar Isaac, Matthew McConaughey, and Ethan Hawke.





GHOSTBUSTERS---Sony Pictures "would jump at the chance to sign [Bill] Murray for either a cameo or supporting role" in its all-female reboot movie.





PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES---Javier Bardem is in talks to play the villain. Bardem would play a ghost captain seeking revenge against Jack Sparrow for his brother's death.

ONE MAY FAIL---Sam Raimi is in talks to direct this movie based on the upcoming novel by Matthew Quick (SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK). The plot involves a woman who returns to her hometown to clear the name of her former English teacher whose career was ruined in a classroom scandal.

NOW YOU SEE ME 2---Lizzy Caplan (MASTERS OF SEX) is in negotiations to co-star with Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Caine, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman and Mark Ruffalo.

DARK MATTER---new Syfy series based on the comic book in which a derelict spaceship's crew comes out of stasis with amnesia. They then must deal with many deep space threats on their mysterious voyage.

HUMANS---new AMC sci fi series underway based on a Swedish series set in a "parallel present" where people own human-like robots called synths. The synths start acting "almost human" which leads to "chilling consequences". William Hurt and Katherine Parkinson star.

THE ILLUSIONIST---CW tv series underway based on the 2006 movie that starred Edward Norton and Jessica Biel. The tv series is set in New York at the turn of the century where an illusionist is freed from prison after being framed for a crime he didn't commit. He joins a crime syndicate to save his wife who is now married to the crime boss who framed him.

IN GOOD COMPANY---CBS sitcom underway based on the 2004 movie that starred Dennis Quaid and Topher Grace. The plot involves a middle-aged executive whose new boss is half his age and is dating his daughter.

LAZER TEAM---sci fi movie underway in which four losers acquire a high-tech combat suit developed for a super warrior who will battle aliens. When the suit bonds with their DNA, they must wear the suit to save mankind from the aliens. Alan Ritchson (THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE) and Colton Dunn (PARKS AND RECREATION) star.

RANSOM---tv series underway based on Laurent Combalbert, the leader of an international crisis negotiating team. Frank Spotnitz (THE X-FILES) is the co-creator.

Intriguing. I've seen the two seasons of the Swedish series called ÄKTA MÄNNISKOR (REAL HUMANS) and I'm a big fan of that. Some of the best that's been produced in Scandinavia as far as tv shows are concerned, IMO. But we've been waiting for a third season for a year or two, and nothing seems to happen. I don't know if it's financing or whatever.

But it figured that an American remake would come down the road, and now it's apparently happening. And with William Hurt reprising -- sort of -- his role in A.I?

Hawke and Leto have the look of the character. Apparently Keanu Reeves is also being talked about - he certainly has the bearing for the sorceror. Made a great Constantine.

Ryan Gosling is also in the running now, according to what I read this morning.

I was also hearing rumors that Margaret Thatcher's zombified corpse was being considered for the role.
