The official concensus is that "we can handle it, cos we're smarter than it is."
The propensity of the little feller to give the slip, however, is of some concern given how stupid it is.
Contagion doesn't pinpoint any specific virus - it is an umbrella to take into account broad based characteristics from the class of highly infectious and transmissable diseases even though the film gives the virus a bird-flu type moniker. I think it was, in hindsight, an inspired piece of film-making.
